anyone watching widow's bay (apple tv)? i think it's one of the best shows around, and also one of the best horror series ever. and the cast is stellar. cheers -- .
aka. fili orc-enshield +++++++++++++++++++ the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield." this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo

The acting *is* stellar, and the pacing is great too. No drawn-out slow bits. They give you just enough of each character and story-line to become invested and want more.

yes, the acting is so, soooooooo good. it's always a treat to see dale dickey (rosemary). i thought she deserved an oscar nomination for winter's bone. where are her acting awards (overall)? she is fantastic, and always delivers. i love kate o'hara, what a scene-stealer. effortlessly, not trying to steal focus. she's just this chimeric, almost other-worldly presence who is at the same time abundantly human. love stephen root. another one who always delivers. whatever he delivers, i'm always wondering what else is going on inside. matthew rhys -- boy this fellow has range. i had previously (and recently) seen him in the miniseries where he plays a (presumed) serial killer / psychopath. the writing (and directing) have been stellar. i love how throughout the series, there are homages to previous contributors to the horror genre (e.g., king, lovecraft, final girl trope, halloween, etc.) -- but -- what we see is never a cheap copy or cop-out masquarading as homage. and the musical cues are unnerving. that bassoon. the sea hag i found particularly scary, even on rewatches. addendum -- hey! : ) -- what happened to your avatar picture? : ) cheers -- .
