Hard to decide what to keep and what to shelve when you know that his colourful past helped bring him to the mind and ability to "boost" those doomed settlements. What a fascinating story and character! I have to be firm - he's not even a secondary character, let alone a major one, so he can't take up much page time. He can have a sidebar, and I might end up doing a blog post eventually, as the history is so very interesting. Thanks, Gramma!

how that heatwave was affecting you. It sounds exhausting - I read an article the other day that said something like "British houses were built for a climate that no longer exists." Good news on the greenhouse! And the new wall is a great idea - will it be an insect (and general arthropod) hotel?

all the plants I grew from seed are planted out. As soon as the greenhouse is glazed, my tomatoes will come home - I'm looking forward to that. Chipmunks? not in this country, I'm afraid - they're rather like our grey squirrel but with go-faster stripes!

to go in the new greenhouse, the ramshackle arrangement I had before wouldn't look good! The weather's cooled off now thank goodness, I'm not a natural sun-worshipper.

it just saps your energy! Reading in the shade is very nice, but it doesn't get the jobs done. As for British houses, that is certainly true in some cases, but I'm quite lucky. My house was solidly built (brickwork and rendering) in 1950 with the larger windows on the sunny side to make the most of the light and warmth. It's also well insulated. If it's a bit too hot, I draw the curtains in the heat of the day. Because of the prevailing winds and the way the house faces, I can usually arrange a through current of air if there's any breeze, which helps. People usually say that we don't have climate, we have weather, because we're at the crossroads of four major weather systems - Arctic (cold / wet winds), Eastern (cold dry winds / snow), Southern (hot air up from the Sahara) and Atlantic (mild, wet and windy.) No wonder we Brits talk about the weather so much!

OH! The greenhouse is finally coming to life! You've waited so long for this. How wonderful that you have so many helping hands to make it happen. Good use of existing landscaping. Especially if it will help keep you safe :D I hope you're taking plenty of pictures ;) *high five* Hopefully no more nasty heat while this gets done.
We have been there and back again. TIME Google Calendar

I can understand being able to sense their personality differences, and it was only a matter of time before they'd be of age to start expressing those in physical ways. So one wants to be an Olympic rower! Must be "in the blood"!
