Fiesta Friday is here! Come on in and join the party! Can't Post

Well, hello again dear friends. Welcome to our little Fiesta Friday celebration.

This week was a cleaning and purging week for me. Well, more purging, in preparation for a free document shredding event later this week. I still have previous clients' work papers from years ago that can be disposed of, but some of them were confidential at the time so I feel it's the right thing to do to shred them. We have a small shredder here at home, but shredding any large amount of paper with it results in specs of paper in the air which I always manage to inhale *cough, splutter*. Laugh

Tonight we're being treated to dinner out by my brother and his family. My nephew leaves for medical school in two weeks, so it may be a while before we see him in person again. He's a twin, and I'm not sure how his sister and him will manage living apart, as they've been joined at the hip since before birth, lol. We'll be there to support them both, however and whenever needed.

So, how did your week go? A short work-week for U.S. sibs. Fun plans for the weekend? Let us know! But first, of course, grab a plate and visit the delectable buffet, and order up your favorite drink from our honorary bartender: none other than Barliman Butterbur - at your service!

*puts quarters on juke box* you know the drill!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! HeartLaughHeartSmileHeartCool

Nothin' like a good shredding! [In reply to] Can't Post

We have "shredding days" a couple times a year here, where for a donation to the local food pantry you can have a box or bag put through a huge shredder. Great way to dispose of old statements and tax records. Doesn't it feel good to get those out of the house!

Best of luck to your nephew! Does he know what field he'll want to specialize in? What are the sister's plans?

We had a fun day trip to the southern end of Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts last week, via a converted trolley. Beautiful area, but the story of the drowning of the four towns in that valley is sad. Then had an excellent lunch at a fantastically converted train station.

Got a busy day tomorrow, a local camp we support is having its 70th Anniversary celebration, so we'll go for lunch and to roam around. Can't stay for the evening campfire, we need to return to town for a "Folk Songs of the '60s" sing-a-long event!

Could Barli pour me an iced mocha, please, Altaira? I need to do a bit of weed-pulling this afternoon.

Oldies, but goodies! [In reply to] Can't Post

The folk songs of the 60s, not the singers. Angelic That sounds like so much fun. Love the song you posted too.

The day-trip sounds like it was a real success. We have the same situation here in Colorado at Dillon Reservoir, with a town displaced. But, the new town is a thriving stop on I-70 the way to a bunch of ski areas, so it was a happy ending.

My nephew has always wanted to be an ER doctor. But, med school will include cycling through a bunch of different areas, and he won't have to commit to one for 2 years or so. He's already worked in many different areas of the hospital associated with the pre-med school, and he's leaving a volunteer job as the administrator of an over 2,000 med-student volunteer free clinic, so he could end up anywhere. My niece's pre-med education took her down the path of designing medical equipment and prosthetics (both for people who have lost a limb, but also to help heal injuries). So, after she finishes her final project this summer, she'll get a job.

Happy weed-pulling!

That worked out well! [In reply to] Can't Post

For the residents of that displaced town! Cool

Two medical talents in the family! What an awesome occupation your niece has!

Okay, time to get outside. Enjoy the weekend, Altaira! Smile

I wonder [In reply to] Can't Post

how my identical-twin great-nephews will do once/if their paths diverge. I do see, now they're 16, that they are beginning to scope out different territory. Their personalities are very different - we shall see.

Not a lot of plans for the upcoming week, besides a hike with friends. We're bingeing "The Other Bennet Sister" in clumps; we've seen four episodes so far and by Wednesday there were be three more to view. At the end of June we'll watch the final three. Enjoying this series very much.

We went to see "The Sheep Detectives" in the theater. Two thumbs up - or hooves, in this case. I will be taking myself out to see the new Mandalorian movie next week as well.

Our weather is all over the place. 78 degrees yesterday, 58 today, and the forecast for the next 10 days is equally bipolar. You'd think we lived in Colorado! Today is misty, so I'll have a London Fog and a scone please barkeep!

Haha! [In reply to] Can't Post

Your weather sounds a bit more bipolar than Colorado's. At least more often than Colorado's. We've settled into our usual Spring pattern of sunny days, maybe a shower or two, and cool nights, which is fine by me, thank you very much, lol.

Lot's of fun activities in you upcoming plans, as usual. We're planning to see the Mandalorian movie too, this week, but my expectations are pretty low. Still, a movie can just be plain fun to watch and still be enjoyable. I'll have to look up The Sheep Detectives. Sounds intriguing.
Have fun on you walks and other outings! Heart

Actually... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I'd think you lived in New England! Laugh 80's two days ago, tomorrow's high may not go above 50.

How does one usually tell the twins apart?

What delicacies are you cooking up for watching the rest of the series? Smile

The end of the golden weather. [In reply to] Can't Post

We've had a fine run of lovely autumn weather, but heavy rain is predicted for the next week or so. It should stay reasonable for the many thousands who've gone away for our most bizarre (for a variety of reasons, including it not actually being his birthday) holiday, King's Birthday Weekend.

We generally ignore holidays and stay home away from the crazy traffic, but we did have to nip out to our nearest town this morning, as our c. 40-year-old digital scales finally got beyond Mr Kimi's impressive powers of repair. Got a good price on a new set in the King's Birthday sale, so I can't complain too much about the holiday :)

It'll be a quiet weekend generally. I've made a fruitcake for upcoming birthdays, and Mr Kimi's making a caramel cake for the weekend. I've had a fairly productive week writing-wise, though am currently in one of those situations where I have to whittle down just how much of the available info makes its way into the book. This week a chap turned up in the research files who had a flamboyant life including over-the-top activity in Samoa, but I must strictly confine myself to the later period when he was "boosting" ultimately doomed settlements in New Zealand. As problems go, it's quite a good one to have :)

Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

Go carefully with the weed-pulling. [In reply to] Can't Post

I was doing that last Sunday, pulling out deadly nightshades that I'd ignored for too long, and ended up pulling a muscle or ligament just under a rib. It was one of those 'gets worse before it gets better' things and I finally caved and went to the GP on Thursday to get some proper painkillers. It still hurts to bend, twist or reach, but I can tell that the pain is lessening day by day now.

Tell you what was best for the pain, though: a hot-water bottle. Nothing else compared. Laugh

I'm so relieved the golden weather has lasted as long as it has. [In reply to] Can't Post

For the last 18 months I've been organising a celebration of Pukekura Park turning 150, and most of the events were during this last week. I've just come back from the New Plymouth Brass Band playing on the band rotunda - NZ's oldest brass band playing on NZ's oldest rotunda - and there were about 150ish people there at any one time, dancing away at brass versions of Uptown Funk and The Circle of Life. Laugh

I've been keeping an eye on the front coming across the Tasman and willing it to keep away until the end of the anniversary activities. The week of rain that's coming will be urgh but I'm so glad it held off for as long as it did!
