is about 4.5 litres, which is a little over one US gallon. We don't fill them too full (this stuff fizzes away for a while!) so more like 3.5-4, which makes 4-5 bottles, depending on how much sediment there is to discard. No, I can't quite see us manhandling a water-cooler sized one! This year we got a bit carried away and made four carboys worth, so there will be a lot of feijoa wine to get through! Usually either a nice sharp cheddar or some Edam, depending on what we've got. We also have pickled cucumbers from this year's crop, and lots of homemade chutney - today as a change from feijoa it'll be elderberry relish. Maybe a drop of homemade cider to go with it!

Though I do try to get up and move around every half hour or so, for both physical and mental well-being, and it's nice to have something lovely to look out upon. The win's been in the carboys for a while, and will be in the bottles for some months. Not as long as "serious" wine would be, but this is light, fruity stuff on the rustic side, and it wouldn't last a cast time. Though having said that, a while back we mislaid a bottle, so it ended up with an extra year of bottle aging, and it was very nice indeed, definitely "softer" than the more youthful ones.

maybe pop a couple of bottles aside for a year's lay-down and see how they go? Are you still making the occasional Ricotta cheese? It's gorgeous weather down here too and I'll be putting some spinach and broccoli plants in; I've yet to succeed with broccoli but god loves a tryer.

I really don't see us getting through all that we've made in one year, anyway, so I think keeping some over for another year will happen by default. I've given up on broccoli - we eat a lot of it, so it was worth (repeatedly) trying, but we just don't have the climate for it. Some years rocket does well for us as a leafy green, but usually the slugs get it. Fortunately beans (broad and French) do really well. I haven't made ricotta or other "real" cheeses for years, but I do regularly make cottage cheese, which is super easy (not "real" cheese because it doesn't use a culture - it's just the solids separated out of whole milk with the use of an acid, aka vinegar). When we were last in Dunedin, at the Farmers' Market we bought a locally-made farmhouse brie-style, and oh, was it good. I've had nothing of that quality since we were last in France, which is a long time ago now. That's got me as far as actually thinking about getting out my old cheesemaking gear - we shall see if I take the next step towards actually doing it.

Doesn't it figure you have to contend with a cold, but I'm happy you're on the mend. :D All has been well in Michigan. The weather has mostly stayed on the chilled side, but that will certainly be changed soon enough. I'm finally getting some yard work done. Planted and re-located some scattered hostas to their new digs around the base of the flag pole. Everything I've tried to plant there throughout the years didn't do so well, and these hostas from around the yard needed to unify and bring some beauty to that forlorn spot. The flag & pole deserve better! ;) So far all the divided hostas and a few new ones to fill it in are perky and very happy looking!
Thanks for taking such great care of us Altaira!

Just milk. Yogurt might be nice for a change! I don't fancy the idea of it on porridge.

The ones I'd transplanted a couple years ago to around my mailbox have managed to survive snowplow-dumping and pop back up. They do make a nice base! Yep, WARM weather is on the way - get out the sunscreen lotion!

I like Ataahua's idea, let a couple of bottles age for a year. Or two. Homemade cider! I'd forgotten you have apple trees!

Oh how Awesome! I hope the weather hasn't hampered you too much. It's been very Michigandy for the last few days. Coldish, rainish, warmish, back to rainish... at least the threat of it. ;) I'm so glad there are so many Tolkien sessions still pulling in great interest. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Instead he conducted all of us, and an associate handled the organ. Each choir performed one or two songs of their own, one group was a "barbershop quartet" that had been started 50 years ago (and two of the guys were original members). At the end when he put all the choirs together, tenors and basses were at the front, sopranos on one balcony and altos on the balcony across. Son said it was like "3-D sound", fully filling the place. So much fun!
