I was trying to decide between "The Hobbit" and "Watership Down", two books I had found in my parents' bookshelf. I settled on The Hobbit, not knowing that there was any sort of sequel. I enjoyed it, and then found the Lord of the Rings movies were going to come out, and there was all that fuss in the media and stuff. So of course I had to read the books first. So I finished Fellowship not a day before the movie came out, and I was hooked. Then me and my best friend dissected Tolkien's other Middle-earth works together.
Favorite Tolkien character:
I like any of the main characters who have a ton of history, like Aragorn, Gandalf, Elrond, etc. It's mind boggling to read the books and think of all those characters have been through that led them to this point. Especially Aragorn's lineage and Gandalf's existence before Arda was even constructed.
