So what have you been doing this past week to soothe any withdrawal from our home?? :D

And.....it's open for business! [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh gosh, not even the slightest hesitation, I do believe our esteemed TPTB, may the hair on their toes never fall out, have performed a miracle! Heart

Could I have a mocha frappe, please, gramma? I've been refreshing potting soil in my potted plants, and planting snapdragons with nasturtium seeds in a deck planter. I'm going to have to have a word with the squirrels, it looks like one of them was digging down to the roots of one of the snapdragons. Unsure

Are you getting this delightfully warm weather, gramma?

Whoosh! [In reply to] Can't Post

That happened so fast I almost got whiplash - impressive! So good to see things working as they should again. I've spent a while clearing everything out of my hall, and upstairs landing (two bookcases involved) ready for new carpet to be fitted. It was supposed to happen this morning but the job was moved back to this afternoon due to staffing problems - then this afternoon it was moved to first thing tomorrow morning! By this time tomorrow it should be done and everything put back in place, hopefully. Most of the stuff is out of the way in the spare bedroom, thankfully. This morning, when I heard the job was delayed, I went out with a friend to a farm shop and cafe for elevensies; we sat outside and a robin hopped onto our table for cake crumbs; very perky and, I imagine, well fed (if not very healthily!)
Spring is moving on, wild cherry blossom is just starting to fall - when it does, there's a lovely confetti effect all around until it blows away or is washed away by the rain. Trees are coming into leaf and everything is greening up very satisfactorily - it really lifts the spirits. I'm going to have to borrow space in my friend's greenhouse for my seedlings, as my new one isn't arriving for some weeks yet.
As for drinks, I'm going to do a Gandalf and say, 'Just tea, thank you!' Decaff is what I drink anytime after lunch these days. Cheers and welcome back, everyone; hope word gets round fast that the boards are moving briskly so the next Fiesta will be a real celebration.

So, what happens if I click here... [In reply to] Can't Post

KABOOM! A whole new page opens!!! It's like, I dunno, the start of an Information Superhighway, in the East called The Worldwide Web, and by the Dwarves in the First Age called "That Geocities page on Netscape you reach after 5 minutes of dial-up tries."

Anyway, I no longer check everyday on TORN to see if it will load, but glad I did today--nice to see everyone here in "The Global Village."

I am of the firm opinion that there's never a wrong time of day to have a mocha latte, so Gramma, if you're serving, please gimme a pint, and I'll in return pull some weeds or stack some lumber or do something useful in your yard. Have caffeine, will work.

Boston keeps flirting with freezing temps, but warming up a little, and my landlord's garden is bravely showing rose stems sprouting, plus elsewhere I've seen daffodils while out on walks, so the winter of our discontent slowly transforms into... the spring of our pollen-induced delirium.

And the drinks are on the house! :D [In reply to] Can't Post

I was pretty busy last week, so I didn't have too many *twitches* :) But it was obvious getting the lights on again was a HUGE challenge! SO grateful for those who got us back :D

So fun getting the flowers going, but those squirrels need to back off! I got a squirrel repellent online that resembles a tea mixture in a teabag-like sachet to put in my roof vents. Those stinkers really didn't like that smell and quickly moved out last fall. They're still not coming around. I'm wondering if some herb-stuff from those sachets would work around your plants?

Today is the first truly warm day we've had around here; but I'm totally loving it! :D Good luck on you gardening prep!

I was fixing to set up a flock of carrier pigeons to get things moving ;)

Isn't it amazing how resilient those plants and flowers are to just POP UP whiles it's still cold? They're eager to do there thing... and I'm heartily grateful every Spring :D

Tried mothballs as animal deterrent? [In reply to] Can't Post

About 20 years ago I lived in Kansas City and had squirrels or chipmunks gnaw through a plank of wood to create a nest over my enclosed patio, and a handyman told me "almost every animal hates mothballs, so try those." And I did, but I also put wire mesh over the mothballs, and that kept them out, but as experiments go, I ruined my own results with the more reliable wire mesh. Still thought I'd pass it along in case they change their minds and start brewing your herbal tea bags instead of fleeing them.

Did they finally come to install the carpeting? Moving bookcases full of books and things is an arduous task, then you have to get everything put back again! But the new carpeting makes it all worth the effort.

How large is the new greenhouse? One does like to constantly track the progress of seedlings, which is difficult when they're in another greenhouse, but you do have hardy seedlings, so they should be fine while they're "away from home".

A robin hopped onto your table? How nervy, but how delightful!

I remember those days well... [In reply to] Can't Post

We actually got a second phone line for our house so the computer online time wouldn't tie up the phone.

Very nice to see you here! I like that: "Have caffeine, will work." That's how I feel in mornings, when I've got some writing or other things that need to get done. You can come here and help scoot leaves out of the plants, it looks like won't be having any more sub-freezing temps down here for a while. The Boston Common and Garden must be just about to burst out in bloom!

Right now, thunderous. [In reply to] Can't Post

We're having the occasional squall with flash-bangs, and the temperature's dropped. Up 'til now it's been unusually hot and sunny, which has been lovely especially after our January was a rainy write-off.

I've had photos of our snowy mountain cropping up in Facebook memories for the last six weeks or so, but this year so far the mountain is bare. (I don't mind this - I'm *not* a creature of the cold.)

A-leaf-scootin' I will be [In reply to] Can't Post

Which sounds sorta like Bombadil, so I'll add a "Hey! Come derry dol!"

I am looking forward to the Public Garden this year. It never disappoints, and it feels like we've had the right kind of winter/spring to encourage great blooms of all kind.

Good luck with the nasturtiums and snapdragons this year! My landlords planted some of each last year in their garden, and the nasturtiums in particular bloomed like crazy all summer and into the fall and made a great border line to the flower bed.
