Greetings, and happy Friday! Glad you could join us for another Fiesta celebration. Migration update: I believe the developer has what he needs now, but he's snowed under, so things are being delayed, probably to early May due to commitments coming up for me too. Whatever he or Corvar did whilst getting the data must have sped things up, so fingers crossed that it stays that way for just a bit longer! Our deck is almost done - Tuesday or Wednesday is the new ETA. We haven't had snow here at the lower elevations but we had a few days (like today) of temps in the 20s (-6 ish C) where it's far to cold to work outside all day. With warmer weather predicted, we should be enjoying our new deck mid-next week! Even if wearing sweaters. How has the week treated you? Did you have a good Valentine's Day? The Fiesta buffet is looking particularly delectable with sandwich makings, soups, and hot and cold desserts (yes, gramma, that includes ice cream, lol). So do tell us how your doing whilst enjoying a nibble and sip from the Fiesta bar! *puts quarters on juke box* any old fav will do! Have an amazing weekend, everyone!

Greetings, Altaira, and happy Friday to you! So glad to hear that things are progressing for the new Boards. It might seem slow, but as they say, slow and steady "wins the race" - and ensures the new Boards are perfect! The Valentine's chocolates are all gone here, alas. Could I have a large mug of hot cocoa, please, and I'll take some of this minestrone soup with a chunk of break, mmm. Wow, you are having pleasant weather out there, and that deck is progressing nicely! We've got cold rain/wintry mix today, and we're expecting ANOTHER snow-making Nor'easter on Sunday into Monday. The ol' snow-blower is getting a workout! I'd better make sure we've plenty of feed for the feathered friends (and grey fluffy-tailed ones as well). Have you been watching the Olympics? I don't know how those kids manage some of those maneuvers on skis and boards and skates. Our favorite is curling, because of the physics involved. I've noticed a lot of Beatles' songs being used in the ads. Here's one for the occasion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45cYwDMibGo

I've been watching the reports of yet another nor'easter heading your way. Rug up, as the Kiwis say! I do remember one winter when B.G. and I were engaged but he didn't have his visa yet where it didn't snow. It was a depressing year for me in many ways (not the least of which was being parted from my sweetie), and that just added to it. There's something about watching snow fall that's so relaxing - especially when you have someone else to shovel it, lol. I haven't watched much of the Olympics this year - at least not live. Been busy with landscaping and deck things, plus (oh joy) starting taxes. We do watch replays of things that interest us. That Canada curling sandal is something else, isn't it? I think he did touch it. Have a wonderful weekend and do stay warm!

oh man, that was a long & frustrating wait on the sidewalk to get in again! I've been good; snowed under with work - THREE BOOKS to publisher in last month! Alas not snowed upon at all in the PNW, and we're very worried about our snowpack/future fires/future water issues, But it's cold and hopefully the mountains will get some more snow in the coming weeks. I'll have an Angel Mist with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top please! Are those scones? I've missed my Fiesta scones . . .

Hi Altaira, and anyone who pops in! I haven’t been able to get TORn message boards to load, let alone log in, for ages. Dear Ethel told me about the migration (congrats and thank you!) so I tried again, just to see the old place—and threaded mode—one last time, and poof!!! Here we are. Recently saw the EEs on the big screen, all in the middle of the snowiest January since the 70s; other than that, around this time last year I saw ROTK TR with orchestra. After missing the legendary RCMH Moot all those years ago, that was a long time coming. Other than that things have been good. How are all y’all?

Wow. Three books? No wonder you've been away (sidewalk cleared out a little for now). Congrats on those milestones! We're in the same boat as far as snow. All of the ski areas have been less than 100% open. Although, the mountains have been socked in for several days in the last week (as in I can't see them due to the white cloud cover), so hopefully they're getting the snow they need. I hope you have a relaxing weekend planned after all that work! You deserve it!

So very glad you made it! Thanks for persevering. Getting lots of LOTR movie watching in, I see. Good for the soul, lol. We've been limping along here as best we can. I'm itching to get the test migration and start working on it.. Until then, I'll keep my sword drawn for pesky bots. B.G. and I are traveling between our home improvements. 2025 saw us in S. Africa, Madagascar, Dubai, and we also sailed the entire Mississippi river from St. Paul to New Orleans. I learned it's not just a river, it's an entire culture and lifestyle to those who live near it. Lots of great history to take in too. Have a great weekend, and it goes without saying that we hope to see you around more!

Great to see you, Sir D! Yep, you've been getting a tonne of snow, how many cm so far? And that must have been such a blast of nostalgia, seeing the EEs on the big screen. Did they show them all in one day?

I've just come in from a bike-ride and it's near lunchtime, so the heat is building. It's a beautiful blue-sky day out there. My biggest issue from the week was when I managed to mandoline my knuckle while slicing carrots, so I'm a walking wounded . But really it was just another steady week at work. Other areas of the country are having massive clean-ups after slips and floods but, for a change, my area managed to stay away from the drama. *touch wood* Is your deck a replacement, or a brand-new feature for your home? Either way, enjoy! Have a great weekend, everyone.

Isn't this the weirdest thing!? Suddenly the Boards have beaten back the bots for one long last dash before the migration :D I'm thinking those bot bombers have heard that they're going to lose this little play ground because of their antics, so they're trying to feign a healing in hopes of keeping us around. But I've been having so much more fun right now :D It's great to see you! I hope the weather does what you're waiting for. Winter is fast coming to an end. CHEERS!

Oh yeah... gimme some of that good stuff! Having the boards going lickity-split has been such a great Valentine's gift :D I'm so happy Corvar was able to wield his magic for us once again!!! :D I'll mark up May and count the days. My daughter and I had a great time on Valentine's Day watching movies and eating yummy stuff. She had her surgery follow-up appointment on Monday, and her dr/surgeon was very happy with her progress. She got a permanent splint on that right ankle until it's replaced in her next follow-up appt on Monday Mar 2. This one will allow more flexibility. I went up to her home yesterday and put together a twin-size hospital bed with the most HORRIBLE set of directions I've ever met, and put together my g'son's triple-surface computer table/station with not quite as bad directions ;) Today I saw 3 of my sure signs of Spring coming soon. Quite the shocker, so I'm taking it as a good sign x 3 ;) Poor skunk along the road that forgot to waddle faster, a large flock of Canadian geese heading north, and the buckets are hanging off the town's Maple trees. That sap is made into huge batches of syrup and sold throughout the year... but it especially creates giddy anticipation for our annual Maple Syrup Festival the end of April. I'll just take my monstrous ICE CREAM CONE over here in a quiet corner and thank you for taking such great care of us, Altaira. :D

That sounds like the trip of a lifetime. Did it feel like the Anduin at any point? It must have been amazing to visit all those countries. Was it all one whirl wind trip, or did it take some months? It’s nice to be able to pop in again. Earl reached out to me via email recently, but I was afraid to respond in case it was someone spoofing. TORn seemed a safer option to reconnect. Have a lovely weekend too!

Well the plan was to see them one per night, in order, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It snowed mightily every one of those days, with Wednesday (so Two Towers) snowing so bad we had to put it over to Saturday night — thankfully there were tickets left. The films were glorious to experience again, and weirdly looked better than they did 20 some odd years ago. I think they regraded them, with some of the dodgy scenes greatly improved (e.g., when the column falls with Aragorn and Frodo during the flight to the bridge of Khazad-dûm scene; or when Isildur puts the ring on in the flashback to his death scene). There seemed to be far more detail than I remember, even from countless viewings at home. Though I love the movies, I don’t think we could have done them all in one day. Seeing them all in one week, with one or two day gaps between showings was gruelling enough. Strangely, although I experienced flashes of nostalgia—and euphoria at appropriate moments—the thing that was missing was the anticipation that built from having to wait a year between releases. It was fine that we ended up seeing them out of order; Towers is probably my favourite of the three lately so ending there was kind of nice. Snow? I think we were up to 3 feet (about 90 cm) of the stuff by the time it settled down. Not quite “it will be the death of the hobbits” amounts, but a lot for these parts, more than we’ve seen in a couple decades. We’ve had a bit of rain, sometimes freezing rain, in the last couple days, but bitter cold and more snow is on the way next week. So it’s still soup weather, which is fine with me!

Isn't this fun!? :D Hopefully it hangs on and we can keep meeting up until the migration; but I'll take it for as long as I can. I saw the films over the last 3 days it played here locally. I was really surprised at how emotional it was seeing it on the big screen again with the music and closing credits at the end of RotK just completely finishing me off. Such wonderful heartache. I'm SO HAPPY that you were able to see ROTK with the orchestra. That is also a hugely emotional way to travel through Middle-earth ;) *high five*

That happens so fast! OW! I'm glad that mandolin effect isn't hitting your region! It must almost feel strange to have all the cleanup going on around the country and NOT in your backyard ;) I hope you have a fantastic weekend and have a chance for another relaxing bike-ride with lunch or dinner close behind!

Walking wounded, indeed. At least you can still wrap those knuckles around bike handle bars. Glad to hear work and weather are steady. That always help the rest of life go better. The deck is a replacement. The old one was 20 years old and the wooden railings especially were starting to peel. The new one is heavy-duty composite that looks just like wood, and the railings will be coated aluminum, so maintenance free other than a hose-off every now and then. I'll post a picture once it's done! Hope your Sunday is good and your week is another steady one!

for Valentine's Day, a great doctor's report! Uh, how does one "put together" a hospital bed? I didn't know they could come un-assembled! I have not seen skunks yet, but a couple of coyotes have been scrounging under the bird-feeders. GIT! (Coyote ambles into the woods a ways, looks back at me, I make some sharp claps and tell it again to GIT, and it finally grumbles and slinks off.) Canada geese are still pecking at the ground around here, but the sap is starting to be harvested. Springtime in the northern climates! We've got a blizzard coming in tomorrow night...I blame Punxatawney Phil! Stay warm, gramma!

I haven't tried to access the boards for a while, but just now it was rather faster than before, so here I am. Hope the migration to the new boards goes smoothly, whenever it happens! I've just been watching the final of the ice hockey, USA v Canada; no spoilers in case people haven't seen it yet! I have to admit the rules are a complete mystery to me, but all the whizzing about is very impressive. I've also enjoyed the Big Air and Half Pipe. I've never skied so it seems nothing short of magical, what those athletes achieve. The grandsons have just been off school for a week for the half-term break, and have managed to pass on a cold to me, so I'm coughing and sneezing - not much fun! How, pray, can we achieve so much in this world and still not find a cure for the common cold? Hmph! I'm drinking a lot of tea and have ransacked the cupboards for some chocolate. Ice cream is also soothing! Have a good week, folks - cheers!
