The Fox Song/ Sam's Troll Song

On the radio this morning they played a spirited acapella performance of The Fox, an English folk song known from the C15th, and the tune Tolkien had in mind for Sam's Troll Song. So that's been knocking round my head all day (plenty of empty space in there, evidently ) (We know conclusively that Tolkien was thinking of The Fox as the tune because a recording of him singing Sam's song to that tune exists and is probably easy to find online. Finding a licenced version might be harder. ) This morning's performance by The Apex Singers you can probably only hear if you have access to BBC programming and promise not to sue them for [bites finger] One Million Dollars. It's that or buy the CD. For other versions - it's clearly a song that has thrived after crossing the Atlantic, and if you just want to see a video, here is "ritaggn" from Canada performing it on a resonator guitar
