when there's appointments to be kept - you wake up and worry, what do I have to not forget to do today? And then the week is gone before you realize it. Plymouth is quite a large town, in land area. A sister-in-law and family live down near the Canal, it's a pleasant place to take a walk. I find it odd that the Pilgrims and the ship crew seemed so unprepared for settlement. If the Speedwell had been seaworthy and if they had started the crossing in the Spring, things might have been far different. Yeah, the Sox had been doing that a lot early in the season, showing promise then not delivering. But mid-season they started to pick up - one might assume because a certain player was traded away, and morale improved considerably. "Concussion" really hit home; I have a friend whose grandson got a concussion from playing youth football, it affected him badly. You've had a dry spell with above-average temps, here's hoping that rain is indeed on its way!

he took the tree down? It sounds like it was magnificent. The Buddleia will grow! I planted two about 2m apart a couple years ago, and they're now growing into each other. They're blooming well into the Fall. Keeping a "visitor log" is fun - have you tried to count the bees?

As of this morning (Saturday), your Seattle Storm are still in the 8th and final playoff spot.
Alas, our Seattle Storm will not be in the WBNA playoffs this year. Don't mess with my favorite female elves.

From our brief conversation, he apparently was afraid the tree could fall on his house. The maple looked generally healthy to me, but hey, it's his house.
Did he ever say why he took the tree down? It sounds like it was magnificent. Oddly enough, almost no honey bees have visited the Buddleia. Several bumble bees have arrived, but they appear to have been initially attracted by my nearby Salvia plants that have purple flowers. Perhaps not a big surprise since Buddleia is Asian in origin and thus would not have coevolved with Apis mellifera. So, honey bees and other bees will gladly take nectar from the flowers, but they may need to discover the plant when it grows near a more attractive species. Where did I put that copy of Christian Konrad Sprengel's book...

On 1...Ra8 (instead of 1...Nxb4??), if now White greedily plays 2 Rxd5?? Then 2...Ra1+ wins for Black.

the Randy Newman song "I Love LA," which is what plays at Dodger Stadium after they win a home game. But we're in a very nasty stretch of baseball, which is saying something after they've already had 2-3 other very nasty stretches this year. I'm not sure what the issue is, but the vibes are not at all the same this year, as if there's just not the gas in the tank anymore. Lots of injuries stacking up, but that doesn't excuse how bad it's been. Sigh! The work craziness from last week did carry over into this week. And even managed to outdo it! 3 quite senior folks were laid off mid-day without notice, and on Friday I found out another guy I work with is leaving in a couple of weeks too. I really don't know how things will function now, but the people running the company seem delusional enough to think we can get by and things will be better. Like I said, delusional lol. On a fun note, we did an escape room tonight with some cousins, which was a fun but challenging time. It was a horror-themed room where everyone started out locked in their own room. Mine was in some ways the most challenging, and I was very happily impressed with myself by the end - some of the puzzles were very difficult to identify as puzzles in the first place! The new season of GBBO has started, so we'll watch that tomorrow and I'll likely go to a flea market to check out what's there. Our weather is cooling off the next few days, which is concerning because it never does this in September. It makes me worry that some very nasty 110 degree weather is coming soon. But I'll take it for now! Have a great weekend, everyone!

about the Dodgers! And your workplace, either, it's almost like the CEOs are running the place into the ground...hang in there, and keep looking! I've never done an escape room! Are you given any clues to start things off? And is there a time limit? Hmm...cooling off...any rain in the forecast? It looks like you've got some fires out in the hills! Stay safe!

And they all look so happy. A great crowd of doggy pals, and no wonder Tama's in such great shape. Our niece and her partner have a dachshund who goes to doggy day care, and they often go to the beach or similar activities. Chester (doggy) surprised everyone recently by swimming across a creek - they'd never seen him swim before, or guessed that he harboured such an ambition. Even the other dogs looked surprised on the video!

So I guess we're about to see soon whether any of these games are going to make a run for it in the postseason! Generally no, you're just given the premise of what the room is about. An easier room will sort of point you to some clues (in still subtle enough ways) to get started, since getting started is usually the toughest part, IMO. This one was particularly tough since each person was locked in their own room - with mail slots that allowed for verbal communication. A couple of our team were not very experienced, so that made it really challenging to succeed as a group since they weren't as comfortable solving problems by themselves. My individual room was very challenging - I had 5 or 6 locked boxes that required various numerical or letter codes (which I had to uncover along the way). Half of my time was spent thinking "ugh, I'm not going to figure this out!" Sadly no rain here! The earliest I'd expect it is at the very end of December. The cooler weather that's coming will be great though. Looks like there's been some rain out in your direction - hopefully it's just the right amount and not too much!

He reminds me of our dogs growing up - they don't understand that they're 100x bigger than the cat and it's not a fair fight, even when playing.

A steady rain for several hours, just what we've needed. I hope you had all dosed up on coffee before going into that puzzle of rooms! Once you got everyone out, did you then have to get out of the main room together?

Yes exactly: 5 were locked in their own rooms and 2 others were actually "free" in the main area, trying to help get everyone out. 1 poor person couldn't get out of their room, but it didn't really matter as we all couldn't get out of the main room in time. We needed a 6 digit code and just couldn't come up with what it could be in time. Time goes by fast when playing!
