*Revs blenders* Happy Fiesta Friday! Can't Post

Well, get on in here and join us! It's not a party without you. SmileHeart

Our cooler August 'monsoon' weather is kicking in next week with pleasant temperatures in the mid-70s (23 C-ish) and more rain. Of course, more rain than zero is what we call a 'monsoon' here, lol. However, one day there's actually a 92% chance of rain, so it will cool things off nicely and give the thirsty grass and trees a nice drink of water.

This will be another great weekend of double-sport with the Broncos playing Saturday a.m. and the All Blacks playing 3:00 our time Saturday afternoon. This will go on more-or-less every weekend through October, so we're chuffed about that.

How has life been treating you? Weekend plans? As I mentioned, our heavy-duty Fiesta blenders are whirring away, lots of coffee & hot chocolate is on the go four our S. Hemisphere friends, and oh the Fiesta buffet! It's brimming with all sorts of treats made from bountiful garden harvests, and Bilbo even whipped up some peach cobbler from the succulent Colorado western slope peaches that are at the peak of their season. So, imbibe, enjoy, and let us know how you're doing!

*puts quarters on juke box* a nice, late summer song will do.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!! CoolSmileHeart

Peach cobbler? Does it come in pints? [In reply to] Can't Post

Laugh It's the time of year that peaches are at their most luscious! Might I have a mocha milkshake to go with this, please, Altaira?

We had an excellent party for my sis-in-law last weekend, now looking forward to her grandson's/my great-nephew's wedding in November. We'd picked up a hand-crafted present for them: a "beach table" with two cup-size holes, the legs unscrew and it rolls up and has a carry-bag.

We just had a bit of that "monsoon" weather, a nice downpour came through and brought some cooler temps! I've been keeping our pumpkin patch trimmed back, that thing wants to climb all over nearby bushes. Lots of flowers, but no pumpkins have yet appeared!

For summer, one of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvD0_aeAf2E

Yes, and bushels! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's such a pleasure this time of year to bring fruit home from the store that's ready-to-eat and not rock-hard.

So glad to hear about the party success. The beach table sounds like a perfect gift (as long as they don't live in Colorado, lol). Seriously, what a great concept. We also have a November wedding to go to - the daughter of one of my college besties. They have a registry on The Knot.com, and we opted to make a generous donation to their honeymoon fund.

I remember when my mom tried pumpkins. They definitely need lots of room. Here's hoping all those flowers mean lots of pumpkins soon!

Happy weekend! Smile

What a colorful cast! [In reply to] Can't Post

I can imagine what fun it was! And I'm going to guess, that this was a comedy? Was it written by a local playwright?

It's called [In reply to] Can't Post

Four Old Broads. Written in the 80s, it's as if Golden Girls was made for HBOmax and mixed with a pinch of Scooby-doo.

My part wasn't in the script. The stars needed some extra time for costume changes, so we added a short scene that showed the senior citizens' beauty pageant that was referred to repeatedly in the script. My role was an old befuddled stage magician whose act is interrupted by the MC talking backstage, not realizing her mic is on. The director let me come up with my own line: "Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, come one, come all, be astounded, be amazed-" I'm pulling a string of handkerchiefs out of my shirt until I'm interrupted. I try to carry on for a few beats while I'm getting talked over, but eventually use the string to pantomime hanging myself in frustration as i angrily stalk off stage. All the audiences seemed to think I was pretty funny.

Timmy fell down the well!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually... Coffey (kitty) fell in behind the dryer/washer about an hour ago! I was busy here at the computer when Pickle kept pestering me! Whining and jumping up on my lap. I was intensely working, so my reaction was not as gracious as it should have been.

I soon discovered he was doing his Lassie impersonation and trying to alert me that Coffey was in distress!! I hear an apocalyptic rumble-crash in the laundry room and Pickle went crazy crying, barking, doggie-screaming as he ran back and forth between the laundry room and me (all of 15 intense seconds). When I couldn't find her, I asked him, "Where's Coffey?" He's jumping at the dryer and barking like mad! I climbed up and looked behind, and there's that little face looking up at me pinched between the wall and dryer. Pickle's screaming and jumping frantically by now!

I reached down and grabbed her by the scruff (she's screaming now) and I pulled her up and out. *whew* Pickle was overcome with such joy and adrenaline it took him 4 laps running out the doggie door, around the tree out back, launched back through the doggie door, across the dining & living room to rebound off the back of the couch and out the door again!!! FOUR TIMES at top speed! Coffey sat there and watched. We just stayed out of his way.

Other than that, nothing going on here --- after I put a new shelf on top of the washer/dryer :)

*grabs pink lemonade & buffet munchies* Thanks for taking such great care of us, Altaira! Hopefully you won't have to dive for any of our scruffs to save us from ourselves!!! *waves fondly to all*

We have been there and back again.

Coming up with your own line sure makes it easy not to forget it. How awesome to add a bit of comic relief to what would have been yet another transition between scenes. Sounds like you're a natural comedian. Of course, we here at TORn, who benefit from your weekly funnies, already knew that. Laugh

What's that you say, Pickle-laddie? [In reply to] Can't Post

There's Coffey spilled over behind the dryer? Shocked

What a good watch-pup he is, and no wonder he had to work off all that adrenaline in a happy-run! Meanwhile, Coffey is now out of a very tight spot, literally - oh, these curious cats! Heart

Isn't it nice to have an occasional bit of excitement? And All's Well as Ends Better (with a new shelf)!

May you and your furry family have a less eventful weekend, gramma! Laugh

Good Grief! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow. Pickle sounds like Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and Underdog wrapped into one very hyper package, lol. Laugh Which is lucky for Coffey. I'm sure she would have started crying sooner or later, but the backs of dryers are dangerous places with respect to electricity.

What a lot of excitement for a Friday morning. Although, it did remind me of one of my favorite Far Side cartoons. Lucky for Coffey Pickle wasn't like this dog! ShockedLaugh

A pink lemonade, please! [In reply to] Can't Post

A heatwave is peaking here today, so I'll even take another for the road, if you please. Smile This is basically our "real" summer kicking in, so I'm anxiously awaiting even hotter weather to come before long going into Labor Day.

We have some more birthdays in our circle this week, so tonight we'll be in a hopefully well-air conditioned restaurant to beat the heat. No major plans the rest of the weekend. I may have to skip my outdoor walks in favor of the gym, given the hot weather.

Our little garden is overflowing with cherry tomatoes at the moment. Anyone have a good recipe that can take a lot of them? We're practically overrun!
Angelic

Have a great weekend, all!

Cherry tomato recipes? [In reply to] Can't Post

Just eat them, eat them, preciousss! Raw and - er - wriggling off the vine! Laugh

I've usually just used them in salads, but I've seen pasta recipes where they are abundant. They would pair nicely with mozzarella and basil, and work well on shish kebabs.

Stay cool, the Fall equinox will soon be here!

Sounds like a pleasant weekend! [In reply to] Can't Post

As long as you plan it around some A/C.

As dernwyn mentioned, cherry tomatoes go well in salads. Pasta salad, in particular. We have a favorite pasta salad done with rotini, roasted red and green peppers, ham cut into 1/2-inch cubes, frozen peas (cooked) or peas and carrots, grated parmesan cheese, and shredded parmesan cheese, all tossed in extra virgin olive oil. When we have them on-hand, we also throw in chopped green onion and cherry tomatoes (or grape tomatoes). Yummy and refreshing!

Have a great weekend!

Ahh, first sit-down all day. [In reply to] Can't Post

Not quite literally, but it's something we heard in a radio play years ago, and often make use of on a busy morning! Lots of cooking today: the Mr made brioche, and I made sourdough crackers, walnut crackers, and lentil soup. Also did a couple of loads of washing in between. Definitely enjoying a brief sit-down now.

Mixed sunshine and cloud this week, with a good frost this morning - the roof was quite white when I looked out first thing. We still have resident Paradise Shelducks, and occasional mallards. We saw the first ducklings of the season! Not here, but on a pond down the road when we were out for a walk.

Lots of tomato seedlings have sprouted, but the Black Krim are not doing so well, so I may have to try again with them.Still lots of daffodils, and I saw the very first blossom this morning, on an early plum.

That soup is now calling me for lunch.

Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

LOL! [In reply to] Can't Post

My cat will insist on jumping up on the dryer every time I open the door to the closet it's in, and I always worry he'll jump down behind it and how will I ever get him out again? Fortunately so far he's avoided Coffey's fate.

Had to laugh imagining Pickle's "yay I save the day" zoomies!

We're having a heat wave [In reply to] Can't Post

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvqE0EQlaEw

which for us is high 80s for 4 days, then we're back to the 70s. We've been very lucky with our summer weather here. My condo is on a slab and built into the hill - I call it my hobbit house - so it stays cool inside if I shut everything down after the morning coolth.

I've got work for the next three months-- three clients who have lined themselves up very nicely for me - so I'm busy but not swamped. Meeting up with my big brother for lunch tomorrow, otherwise no plans apart from seeing "Life of Chuck" next week with friends.

I've gone paleo so I'll just have a club soda with a twist, please!
