www.herr-der-ringe-film.de got the information, that the first Hobbit film will end after the rescue by the eagles. Cause many merchandise products got a recall from Warner Bros. That includes:
- Beorn and Beorn’s house
- Mirkwood and the Spiders
- Thranduil’s Fortress
- Thranduil
- Legolas
- Tauriel
- Mirkwood Guards
- Barrel Escape plus Arrival at River Shore (including Bard)

will we get to see bits of DOS early ? Most of these books come out in November and the Chronicles one by WETA in December. I wonder if they will manage to make changes before they go to print (I mean if they haven't already been printed).

Sorry but i do not understand what you mean. d If WB recalled some toys from the market, the movie will end at the eagle scene not after. Why do you state the opposite????

The climax will probably be the rescue...

There could be a couple more scenes (or so) before the end credits role. The film could get as far as the company's arrival at the Carrock.

I also think the post above meant "just after" the eagle rescue rather than "a long while after" it.

On the eagles, followed by a shot of Mirkwood in the distance, and the threat that lies ahead.

That is all quite speculative. But, so is my guess at ending the film at the Carrock.

WE'RE ADDING A THIRD FILM! oh and we're cutting AUJ back to the eagle rescue." Having to put the breaks on all that stuff is going through a lot of jive. I'm beginning to wonder if the originally planned AUJ was behind schedule for this December's release? Not that the changes bother me. Feeling duped on the other hand...

I've pre-ordered the one by Fisher and Sibley, so them being recalled and edited would be very disappointed. They've probably printed thousands of copies already, so I think it's unlikely that WB will stop them from publishing due to the financial loss, but you never know

But I'm still way disappointed about postponing Beorn,Thranduil, and Mirkwood until Dec. 2013. We had better see Thranduil and the wood elves alot in the next 2 movies.

I like that idea. Maybe while they are on the eerie, Gandalf could point to Mirkwood in the distance, and you see it looking spooky and you catch a glimpse of Dol Guldur, eeek!

This is easily an hour's worth of material here. WB are money-grabbing lunatics!! The natural climax and build of the movie has now gone. Bilbo's arc is spoiled thanks to us not seeing him come into his own with Mirkwood.

...and Bilbo's arc in AUJ is not spoiled. It will just rather be gaining the respect of the dwarves. His arc in DoS will be stepping up when Gandalf leaves, and in BoFA it will be making tough decisions that reconcile the good guys.

WB are money-grabbing lunatics!! Really? Actually don't answer that.
The natural climax and build of the movie has now gone. Bilbo's arc is spoiled thanks to us not seeing him come into his own with Mirkwood How is it spoiled? Its only the first part of the story, his arc wont be completed until the end. You do know what an arc is right? And we'll have already seen him come into his own after Riddles.

Could one of the considerations for the split/pushing a great deal of AUJ back be effects deadlines? Most of the CGI in the trailer looked like a work-in-progress; they're going to be hard pressed to perfect everything in what's ended up as Film 1 (Trolls, a bit of the Spiders, Radagast's menagerie, the Goblins/Goblin-town, Wargs, Stone Giants, Gollum, digital matte paintings and set extensions ETC), before December. It seems possible that PJ and CO. were faced with a choice; either delay Film 1 (again), release an unfinished film, or push a lot of the heavy effects work back to Film 2. I don't think this was the major factor in the trilogy decision, but it may have been one, IMO.
My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

I don't think they'll end the movie with a shot of the company in the talons of The Eagles... being carried off to Tolkien knows where. IF they even show the eagles' eyrie, I think it will end after. It will either end at the Carrock with a shot of the vastness of Mirkwood to the East and some kind of line about "that is the great forest of Mirkwood... our journey lies that way", or it will end like the Rankin Bass version where the eagles simply plop them down in the grasslands West of Mirkwood. I don't know if they'll mention Beorn or not at this point.. i would think not. This way film 2 can pick up with an exciting flashback (maybe to the dwarf/goblin wars, or smaug's attack on Erebor as Thorin remembers by campfire?) and Gandalf can mention "before you brave the forest, we need supplies and some rest...". They can make their way to Beorn's and the audience can be re-introduced to the dwarves and also a handy rehash of the plot of the first movie to refresh our memories.

If AUJ had the two/three-at-a-time introductions at both Bag End and Beorn's it would be somewhat redundant. With Beorn's in DoS, it actually works to include Gandalf's tactic both times.
