Three..two..one. It's time for Fiesta Friday!

Hello, and welcome! Another Friday and another weekend is upon us. This was a quiet week for us. I did have a client meeting yesterday and a call coming up later this a.m.. We got quotes on tree trimming only to find out we can't trim our crab apple until the dead of winter or it may get blight, and certainly wouldn't flower this coming spring as all the buds have already set (who knew?). So, we're going to wait and do them all then. The dead tree can be replaced in September, so at least that will be done soon. In any case, it was very interesting talking to the arborists and I learned a lot. How did the week treat you? Busy weekend planned, or some r & r? This is salad day at the buffet: fruit salads, egg salad, shrimp salad, lettuce salad, etc., etc.. Ice cream salad -- not really, lol. So, grab a plate, order up your favorite libation, and let us know how you're' doing! *puts quarters on juke box* a song would be lovely. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

That reminds me of being in Rome earlier this year. We were sitting on the hotel patio and were finishing some nibbles from the hotel bar including a small pizza. I love dipping my crust in salt, oil, parmesan cheese, etc.., so I asked if they might have any. To my delight, they brought out an entire, big, ready-made caddy with oil, vinegar, salt & pepper, parmesan, pepper flakes, the works. We had a good laugh because we should have known they'd have those on-the-ready in Italy. They should have had those for old Denethor!

It's another bright and frosty morning here - we've had a week of out-of-the-box gorgeous weather and I have baaasked in the sunshine (while suitably rugged-up, of course). Next week will be the complete opposite, weather-wise, but that's next week's problem. I've come back from my second sojourn to Palmerston North Hospital, this time for a meeting with the radio-oncologist and to have a detailed scan and four dots tattooed onto my torso for positioning the big machine (laser? radiation blaster? dunno, but apparently it looks like a cake-mixer, according to one of the nurses). I've long mulled getting myself a tattoo so it's a bit sad that four tiny dots are my first one, but they're permanent and the medicos call them tattoos so to heck with it, I'm claiming them. It's a three-hour drive from New Plymouth to Palmy, which is easily doable on those roads, but the drive back was a bit of a mission as I was driving directly into the low winter sun for most of the last hour. That glare really does a number on you - I slept very well last night. My next trip to Palmy will be for two and a half weeks. No date yet, but I should hear soon. Meanwhile, I'm off to the new Fantastic Four movie this afternoon! I've been looking forward to this ever since I saw the trailer. Have a great weekend, everyone!

There's an extra thermos or two to get you through next week. Good that the oncology treatments are starting. Best of luck with it! I had to google Palmerston North. Funny how it's pretty far south, but it looks like a nice place. Although, it's hard to find any town or city in NZ that's *not* a nice place. I'd claim it as a tattoo too. Maybe later you can add something onto it that incorporates the four dots into something more fun. Happy weekend and movie watching!

when it comes to the best times to prune them. Good to get that stuff lined up! I've just returned from a Lebanese restaurant, so I'll add a couscous salad to the lineup. We had another meetup with two of hubby's high school friends, the one from Virginia is having a family reunion this weekend so she's in the area, and brought her sister to the lunch. The restaurant owner was very amused at hubby being the only male among four gals! Always great to just chat for a few hours. I've started cleaning out our attic. It's about 5' tall in the center, we'd only used it for storing boxes years ago - and it's time for those old things to go. So I've been taking 6-8 at a time and selecting one to hold the others as I break them down. Then that filled box goes into the top of the recycling bin, to get picked up on our recycling day (every other week). The only original boxes I'm keeping are those that delicate electronics would need to be packed in, if we moved: the phono, CD, and tape players, and their mixer. How about this golden oldie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GhK4X-hMKA What's fascinating about this video, is that Richard Harris is obviously lip-synching, and not very well!

My strongest impressions of PN is flat, lots of roads (yes, every place has lots of roads but they seem to be part of Palmy's personality), and a good location to base yourself to go to other places, like the beach or Pukaha Wildlife Centre (anywhere that isn't Palmy). It's greatest claim to fame is its university, so make of that what you will. But, of course, I'm feeling quite fond of it right now.
Maybe later you can add something onto it that incorporates the four dots into something more fun. Hmm, the Southern Cross comes to mind... I've actually got an idea of a design that reflects my family, with two taniwha (for mum and dad) intertwined like a DNA helix, with seven *something* (curls? limbs?) for us seven kids. I just need to find a Māori tattoo artist who is willing to take on the commission. I think I'll organise it after all this medical stuff is done and dusted, to mark the journey.

Enjoy the movie! Seems like it's getting good reception so far. The trailer strongly reminded me of the old cartoon show The Jetsons - y'know, how the '60s thought that the future would look. I'll be honest and say all the previous Fantastic Four didn't really do it for me - the first two were a little better than average, I guess, and the most recent one was just muddled. But this one looks to be really good. I'll report back!

Ok, then. PN is officially a nice-ish place. The tattoo idea sounds perfect. I had to google taniwha. It seems they're mostly depicted as dragon-like sea monsters/creatures that symbolize a number of different things. Is the meaning of powerful chief or leader the one you have in mind?

Is the meaning of powerful chief or leader the one you have in mind? I want to be sure that the design is appropriate for a non-Māori to wear, which is why I want to work with a Māori artist who lives and breathes the nuances of the art. I like the idea of the guardian of the natural world, so that would be part of the discussion. I just need to find someone to work with. (I'll contact a local sub-tribe office and start from there.)

It's the middle of winter, and we've had a few frosty days (most welcome, as they're good for the orchard). But at the beginning of the week the forecast was for days of sunshine, so we headed north for a break here: https://doubtlessbay.co.nz/gallery/ Much too cold for swimming, but we had nice walks along the beaches, hung out in pleasant cafes, did some window shopping, and just generally unwound. It was gloriously sunny every day, and while cool, not cold enough to be an issue. Our timing was perfect, as we headed for home just as the clouds came in, with rain forecast to follow. This weekend I've been doing a little clearing out of neglected drawers and cupboards, and Mr Kimi's doing some outdoor maintenance. Tomorrow we plan to catch up with a friend who recently walked the El Camino Way, so it'll be good to hear about her experiences. Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.
