Welcome back from your latest adventure, Altaira! It sounds fab.
There's been flooding and storms in large parts of Aotearoa this last week. We got off mildly - the power even stayed on! The power company has done a lot of maintenance work in our area recently, trimming trees, etc, and I think it's paying off now. After losing power for three weeks a couple of years ago, we really appreciate such mod cons around here.
I've been delving into the 1925 polio epidemic, Aotearoa's worst-ever, but largely forgotten. Lots of sad stories, and uncomfortable numbers of parallels with more recent history. We forget so soon.
It's been largely an indoor sort of week. Yesterday I made a big batch of stock, which I'll use for soup over the winter - a very satisfying job all round. Today's been quite chilly, and Mr Kimi is making mulled wine, so the kitchen smells delicious.

A perfect winter drink! On our Hubbard Glacier day they had a station set up with hot coffee, various things to add to it (Bailey's, Irish Whiskey), cups of hot salmon chowder, and mulled wine. I can personally attest that the chowder and mulled wine were delicious!
Is the epidemic delving for a book, or just something of interest? What kind of stock? Animal or vegetable?

I managed to avoid a hoarse voice today, if only in part due to some cousins singing a lot of Korean songs I simply couldn't join in on.  I did come up with some songs I could do too. We had a good time!

I think many of those affected are in a sort of limbo, not able to move on due to various factors. A new AirBnb every month, endless calls with insurance, new schools for the kids, etc. Especially the folks whose homes survived but need remediated - you think "it's THERE, it survived!" but can't move on still.
I've noticed a mixture of reactions, like you mentioned - some folks have a gritty determination to start again (I've seen this mostly with older folks), whereas others wish they could stay and rebuild but don't have the ability to do so, either due to money or willpower (I've seen this more with families with younger kids, but obviously don't want to overgeneralize). The families have an especially tough decision, given environmental health concerns long-term.
Haha, I ended up going with a couple of Oasis songs! They're nice for a group setting because they're easy enough to join in on once you listen for a verse, even if you've never heard one before. And we tend to add in some My Chemical Romance, to let some "screams" out while singing.

Each delicious separately; not so nice in combination, I'd think :)
The epidemic delving grew out of realising it would affect my mc's travels late in the book, but me being me I've felt the need to dive deeper, just from interest (and possibly an eventual blog post).
For the stock, I save bones until I have enough (takes a while, as we eat very little red meat), and also save edible but sad vege leftovers, freezing the lot until there's enough, then cook it all up with added herbs from the garden. It makes an excellent stock, and is a good way of using things up.

WOW! That's some serious take-out travel you did there... but SO WORTH IT! :D The closest I've ever gotten to Alaska is watching a show on TV about harvesting crabs in those waters (Deadliest Catch) and catching some myself from the freezer section ;) YUMMMMMM!
Daughter and I have a BUNCH of appointments with the VA and DRs over these 3 weeks, but thankfully they're all pretty much 6-month checkups and possible VA Benefits coming her way. All the appts are about 150 miles to the north and then 150 miles to the south... so there's a lot of travel coming our way :)
Thanks so much for taking such great care of us Altaira! In this heat, I'll bet B.G. and you are giving Alaska another look! 
We have been there and back again.
