Okay: the boiling water method.

Shuck the ears and remove the silks (I brush them under running water). Fill a large pot 3/4 full with water, and add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. (Not salt!) Once it comes to a boil, add the corn. Cover the pot, turn off the heat, and let the corn slowly cook for 10 minutes. Done!

Enjoy with plenty of butter and salt.

for those of us old enough to have watched M*A*S*H* first time around [In reply to] Can't Post

the best recipe for corn was given by Col. Potter in the finale. He planned on going out to the cornfield, building a fire, bringing a pot of water to boil, and tipping the corn stalks over and dipping the corn into the water for a minute or two, then eating it right then and there.

There I go chasing my tail again! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you so much for grabbing the keys, dernwyn :D I was off on an adventure to hang with the kids and their dad in Indiana for a few days. VERY INTERESTING! We were years overdue in getting together, and it was educational... but we did have fun when we hit the massive Indianapolis Children's Museum. Pickle was so happy to see me when I got home, it took 3 full runs around the tree to calm down enough to say hi :)

The heat subsided for Friday; but we're right back into the heat again today (Sunday).

Your outing with your friends sounds like great fun :D You and I must have been meeting for breakfast at about the same time. I hooked up with my Balti daughter whilst the daddy and younger (both mobility/health issued) got some needed rest before heading for the museum. Balti daughter pushed dad's wheelchair and I pushed younger daughter's. We giggled and gossiped and share a decadent breakfast desert after the eggs Benedict.

I hope you have a great week! :D

Air conditioners are our friends! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's scary when the power goes our or the ac breaks because you don't know (really) how long it will be to get fixed! That first very hot day last week here in Michigan (95 degrees--110 heat index), my power went our for about 2 hours. I cheered the power company guys when they pulled up in their trucks! :D A transformer had blown.

I hope you have a better week to come :D

I waved at the Solstice as it passed by :D [In reply to] Can't Post

It lingered as long as it could... and is planning on putting in a long visit. But I'm with you on keeping it no longer than it is. It's light out until about 10pm here in Michigan.

Oh... sweet kitty soul :) [In reply to] Can't Post

I was wondering how he fared :) It's always great to go on adventures, but (imho) greater to settle back home. Especially if our furry friends stick close. :D Enjoy the cooler weather! I'm a sweater-girl myself ;)

Coming in before close [In reply to] Can't Post

Mentally I posted in Fiesta on Friday, but turns out that didn't happen in reality!

We're not roasting like the folks out East, but it did hit the low 90s this weekend. Thankfully very dry. We relaxed at a park in the morning with the nieces, whose playful imaginations were already moving at 100 mph. I just barely kept up!

Yesterday I found myself briefly doing a bit of amateur family history after an old aunt passed away last week. I may even submit a couple of requests to the local county back home for some birth/marriage/death certificates, for a particular side of the family that doesn't have great record-keeping.

We booked last minute baseball tickets this week, as I found some cheaper-than-usual Dodgers tickets. They're playing very well, so it's next to impossible to find tickets at a price we're willing to stomach for regular season games. Our running joke is that if we just want to see cheap baseball, we could go watch the Angels play for under $10 (not joking).

I'll take a vanilla milkshake to go, please!

Join us every weekend in the Hobbit movie forum for this week's CHOW (Chapter of the Week) discussion!

Children's Museums are wonderful places, even for adults! [In reply to] Can't Post

When the kids were little, we'd take the train to Boston, the station was only a couple blocks from their museum. I can imagine what a blast you all must have had in there, what a fantastic place to visit as a family! Heart

How are they all doing these days?

And you have me intrigued: what is a "breakfast desert"? Shocked

When the humidity is low [In reply to] Can't Post

the heat is much more bearable. But still - that's hot!

Had you ever had the chance, to chat with your aunt about her family? It sounds like you've got some interesting questions you'd like to try to answer!

Aw, the Angels aren't doing THAT badly...(tries to hide Red Sox stats)! Glad you got to a game!

Wow, these to-go shakes are special -

We presently live in Lackawanna, NY which is about 80 miles from the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY.
