Sounds fabulous! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so glad it went well. And nice to be greeted by a happy-to-be-home cat!

Lists were made to be... misplaced ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

My lists tend to be repetitive... duplicates... forlorn attempts at being mature and responsible. *sigh* No wonder I like fantasy stories... I live in that world ALL THE TIME! :D But I'm having FUN (most of the time ;)

The temps over the next 5 days to a week promise to be around 100 (plus or minus) heat index, so I've been doing "the stuff" that needs to be done outside. Then mid-week, I'm off on an adventure with local daughter to join up with Balti daughter and their dad for a day (or so) to have a lunch and a chat. The first time we'll be assembled in at least 10 years. I honestly can't remember the last time... though we're all in touch with each other all the time. It's going to be fun (non-sarcastic) and imho extremely important to keep these family connections with the years turning into decades. He and I are in our 70s and they're in their 50s. His health isn't very good and his vision worse, so it may be (non-morbid) the last time he'll truly see the kids (yep... they're still and always "the kids!")

So I'll grab some pink lemonade and the lawnmower before it gets too hot to dance! Thanks for taking such great care of us, Altaira! Have a great week/weekend everyone!!!

Summer Tunes [In reply to] Can't Post

Summer in the City - Loving Spoonful

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck gettin' dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity?
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people lookin' half dead
Walkin' on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night, it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on, and dance all night
Despite the heat, it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
The days can't be like the nights
In the summer in the city
In the summer in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressed so fine and lookin' so pretty
Cool cat lookin' for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
'Til I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Runnin' upstairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop
Summer Nights from Grease -- John Travolta and Olivia Newton John

Summer lovin', had me a blast
Summer lovin', happened so fast
Met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
Summer days drifting away
To, uh oh, those summer nights

Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more
Did you get very far?
Tell me more, tell me more
Like does he have a car?

She swam by me, she got a cramp
He ran by me, got my suit damp
Saved her life, she nearly drowned
He showed off splashing around
Summer sun, something's begun
But, uh oh, those summer nights

Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more
Was it love at first sight?
Tell me more, tell me more
Did she put up a fight?

Took her bowling in the arcade
We went strolling; drank lemonade
We made out under the dock
We stayed out till ten o'clock
Summer fling don't mean a thing
But, uh oh, those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more
But you don't gotta brag
Tell me more, tell me more
'Cause he sounds like a drag

He got friendly holding my hand
Well, she got friendly down in the sand
He was sweet, just turned eighteen
Well, she was good, you know what I mean
Summer heat, boy and girl meet
But, uh oh, those summer nights

Tell me more, tell me more
How much dough did he spend?
Tell me more, tell me more
Could she get me a friend?

It turned colder; that's where it ends
So I told her we'd still be friends
Then we made our true love vow
Wonder what she's doin' now
Summer dreams ripped at the seams
But, oh, those summer nights

A cooling car ride! [In reply to] Can't Post

That's quite a distance between homes - are you going to meet mid-way, or are you two going all the way to Balti?

Whichever, it's a good time to be in a car's air-conditioning, but still make sure you've got lots to drink. And may you have a wonderful reunion! Heart

OH! You got BORG'd :D [In reply to] Can't Post

Got me good on that one! *still giggling*

I guess it was meant for you to bring Lobelia home with you and the Yarrow as a counter-balance ;) Hence, harmony in the garden remains.

I put in my window air conditioner yesterday. We're under a heat advisory (95-105 heat index) until late Monday. Thankfully it looks like it won't be too long-lived; but it will still be in the high 80s the rest of the week. Possible little rain spurts mid-to-late week will help the plants. I just watered everybody this morning.

Hang in there and don't get caught outside too much for the next week or so!

What a wonderful adventure! :D [In reply to] Can't Post

It sounds like every day was filled with beauty, stimulation and memories :D Awesome! I was very happy to hear that "alone time" was carved into the plans. Personally... many of my trips either suffered or were elevated by that one little respite. Even if the "time" wasn't used, knowing that option was there helped immensely.

I was touched by your search for Polly in the family cemetery. An infant was found in my maternal Grandparents' grave-site where Grandpa, Grandma, and G'pa's 1st wife who died very young are buried. When the grave was being dug in 1910 for her, they found an infant's long-rested remains. The area is still very rural, and all the searching through the years didn't find the story. The baby was moved to a corner of the grave-site and is still there. It's assumed that someone in poverty placed the child there as it has a permanent border that would make safe not to be lost. We always visit the spot each time we went. My Mom & Dad and other family (me too, eventually) are also nearby. When Mom passed away in 2016, I had a marker made and placed over where we were told the baby lays. Your story of Polly stirs that longing need to care for these little ones so they won't be forgotten.

I'll bet Charlie (Cat Master!) and you are so happy to be home! :D I'm glad all is safe and sound!

Dear gramma, [In reply to] Can't Post

Placing the lovely marker for the child was such a "you" thing to do, dear lady. If the world ever does decide to clone any of our species, I'm voting for you!
Most sincerely,
Heart

PS: All's well here in one of your other favorite spots.

We went to a picnic today [In reply to] Can't Post

for those who volunteer at the shoreline-area food pantries (hubby helps distribute at the weekly one in town). It was held at a large "clam shack" down the coast from us, they let us select from one of five options (I got the fish sandwich and he got the garden salad with grilled shrimp). Even though the picnic tables were under tents, it was still hot! Not being used to it, when we got home we promptly hydrated, then took naps.

I like putting more types of native pollinator plants in the garden, which the Lobelias and Yarrow are. Gotta keep my bees and butterflies happy! Cool

Stay cool, gramma!

No aircon in the cottage - [In reply to] Can't Post

it's the exception rather than the rule especially in older properties. However, given the way the climate is going, it might become more mainstream! It's just pleasantly warm today but very blowy; I had the door open and, having initially failed to register the clickety-click of little claws on the vinyl flooring, have just had to evict a panic-stricken woodpigeon from my windowledge! A teatowel and a firm but gentle grip did the trick and the creature pottered off down the garden path trying hard to pretend nothing had happened.

T'is Indy [In reply to] Can't Post

Since their dad isn't able to drive (macular degeneration), we're going 5hrs south and Balti-daughter heads 9hrs west where we'll meet up near his place outside Indianapolis.
