Fiesta Friday is here! Come join the fun! Can't Post

Greeting, everyone! I hope you're ready for some Fiesta fun!

Well, it seems we're still charmed when it comes to our law sprinkler system. After several weeks of cool weather and rain almost every day, It finally started acting like summer. Since Monday, temps have been in the upper 80's/low 90s (32 C-ish) and on Tuesday the forecast for rain settled in at 1% to 5% per day.

Since it was still more than a week until our repairs were scheduled, I rummaged around for the manual sprinkler we use once every year or two to cure brown spots. Then, about 1/2 hour later, we received a call from the repair company that they had an opening and could they come by on Thursday. Sweeeeet! LaughLaugh Not quite the kind of luck that makes you want to go by a lottery ticket, but we'll take it!

How has this week been treating you? Any plans for the weekend? It's Father's Day here in the U.S.. Any dad plans? Let us know after you order up a favorite drink, and make a few passes at the yummy Fiesta buffet!

*kiks juke box* summery tunes, please!

Have a fabulous weekend, my friends! HeartLaughSmileHeart

Let there be sprinkles! :D [In reply to] Can't Post

How cool that you've got a definite appointment to get the sprinkler fixed :D It was nice of the weather to cooperate; but a few more days of moderate rain at least would be nice.

We've got no plans for Father's Day. I'll be sending hugs and twitches to my variety of men-folk; but they've got bigger fish to fry with the immediate family... which is just fine!!!!!

The weather here is still on the cooler side with a nifty rain storm last night; but the part of the yard I didn't mow yesterday is beckoning to me now. I need the exercise after several days of sitting, driving, and not as much treadmill as I'd like. So I'm actually looking forward to a comfy, productive visit with the lawnmower :)

I hope you have a fantastic weekend! Watch out for ladders, mirrors, umbrellas, and black kitty-cats! I'm not superstitious; but it's always wise to keep alert!

I bet the black kitty [In reply to] Can't Post

..is reading LOTR. Haha. Perfect piccies for this auspicious day (which totally escaped me, so thanks for the reminder).

Well then, may you have a fun day mowing the lawn (never thought I'd utter those words), and a most enjoyable rest of your weekend! Heart

Friday the 13th? [In reply to] Can't Post

So it is! And luck is with you on snagging that repair opening, Altaira! Cool Especially with those temps! We've been fortunate to have just one day in the 80's each week so far.

Could I have an iced mocha, please? I've been helping hull and slice the 30 pounds of strawberries which other ladies picked yesterday. Tomorrow we hold a Strawberry Shortcake Festival! It's supposed to be rainy, so we'll set up in the church hall instead of on the lawn. Berries are ready, shortcakes have been bought, and we'll whip the cream just before serving. If you're in shoreline southeastern Connecticut, come on in for a treat!

Now to make some Orodruin Lava Lumps for Fathers' Day. Four of us are making different kinds of cookies, and Sunday morning we'll bag them then hand them out to all Dads and non-Dads (can't have jealousy! Laugh) No definite plans for the day, it'll depend on what hubby's up for doing.

I'll put the cookie recipe in the next post.

30 pounds?! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow, that's a lot of strawberries. Are you using any gadgets to help hull and slice them? My fingers are aching thinking of doing all that by hand. Mm-m-m-m-m. The final product sounds delicious though. As do the cookies! Definitely post the recipe. Of course, they're zero calorie too, I'm sure. Angelic

Enjoy the weekend of good food and fun celebrations!

Orodruin Lava Lumps - Corrected [In reply to] Can't Post

I've corrected the recipe, I'd written the wrong amount of grams for the flour, sorry about that!

Ingredients:
3/4 c. / 170g butter, softened
1 c. / 200g granulated, golden, or caster sugar
2 eggs at room temperature
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. / 240g sour cream
2 1/2 c. / 300g flour
1/2 c. / 43g unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
12 oz. / 340g chocolate chips

Directions:
Cream the butter and sugar. Blend in the eggs, vanilla, and sour cream. Then gently mix in the flour, cocoa, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. The dough will become thick and gooey. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop by tablespoonsful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes, or until set. Cookies will rise a bit and crack while baking. Let cool slightly before removing from sheet.

Makes about 4 dozen decadent chocolate cookies.

No calories, of course! [In reply to] Can't Post

We just used hullers or knives, took 5 of us an hour and a half to do them all. Of course, we did have to do some taste-testing to make sure they were suitable! Laugh

You enjoy the weekend, too, and may that sprinkler sprinkle properly now! Smile

Yummy yum yum! [In reply to] Can't Post

Those sound amazing. Good thing they're zero calorie! Wink I'll save the recipe and make them the next time we have a gathering (so I don't accidentally eat them all myself).

Thanks for posting it!

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON [In reply to] Can't Post

The new live action movie is wonderful. I was teary-eyed for most of the last hour. Go see it. If you can look me in the eye and say you didn't like it, I'll give you your money back.

I've seen trailers for it [In reply to] Can't Post

Loved the original movie, thank you for the upvote for the live-action remake!

I was about to ask about the Pirates and LotR mash-up - then remembered, of course, Legolas is in both series! Laugh
