Don't disrespect Hobbit archery. Can't Post

It turns out that half-sized bows and arrows are surprisingly long-ranged and dangerous.

That is surprising [In reply to] Can't Post

I never thought about it beyond surface speculation: "bigger the bow, bigger the energy/force." Informative video.

Indeed! [In reply to] Can't Post

Short bows can be very powerful. Don't trust D&D weapon stats to reflect reality!

That was fun - thanks! // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

What about those hobbit archers at the Battle of Fornost??? [In reply to] Can't Post

In the good old Fellowship of the Ring prologue, hobbit records reportedly state a party of hobbit bowmen joined the Northern Kingdom in the Battle of Fornost, helping defeat the Witch King of Angmar. History of men does not mention this, but hobbits stand by their records. Tolkien himself said hobbits could be surprisingly tough and stood strong against adversity, threats to their well being. On the subject of hobbit archery skill Tolkien wrote, "They shot well with the bow, for they were keen eyed and sure at the mark."
Fornost was a big marker in hobbit history, Third Age 1975 as they developed a system of chieftans, Thains, to govern their lands in the Shire in the absence of the King in the Northern Kingdom. They endured plague and famine and were able to grow and thrive for centuries in their quiet lands until the events in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings took place.
