This makes me happy!
"Keen, heart-piercing was her song as the song of the lark that rises from the gates of night and pours its voice among the dying stars, seeing the sun behind the walls of the world; and the song of Lúthien released the bonds of winter, and the frozen waters spoke, and flowers sprang from the cold earth where her feet had passed."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCwmXY_f-e0 Looks like they're continuing to throw money at it, so if nothing else, it will look pretty! And there'll be none of that season-long "is Halbrand Sauron" stuff this time around, apparently.

I believe that is Nori in a sandstorm at about 1:17 just after The Stranger's scene.

This looks awesome. I mean - it's just a trailer of course - but it already looks WAY better than S1. I'm also intrigued (and a little vindicated) by the evidence in the trailer that S2 will reveal that Sauron has been among them "all along" - at least I hope that's what it means. I think a lot of the dreck of S1 can be remedied by some good story telling in S2. Here's hoping.

I sent the trailer to my sister because she also enjoys the series and we are both super excited. I'm glad they kept Charlie Vickers for the elven form of Sauron, Charlie is one of my new favorite Middle-earth actors and one of my favorite parts of the show. As much as I enjoyed season 1, my sister and I both agree this one looks so much better and I'm glad it's in August, doesn't feel as long as waiting for the fall, even though the first season came out early September.

Y'all will still be clinging to, or denying, an obvious reveal that Gandalf has been among them "all along". The circle of defenders was entirely derivative of the Avengers circling, right down to the circular camera move. The elven hands displaying their rings was a nice callback to the movies. I'm reminded how poorly elven casting and design was done.

…series 1 left me so disappointed that I have no time for the next 4. If JRRT didn’t write a full story I don’t expect others with far less skill than his genius, to be able to write a story in his world. They can’t. The writing for series 1 was awful (especially if you compare it to JRRT - which you should, as this is his world). But we clearly still have the ridiculous warrior Galadriel, which for me is the biggest let down (after the terrible writing). But now we have made up sea monsters too. Let’s hope things do improve but I’m so detached (but I want to care and I wanted to be excited, hence this reply). If they have the rights to Akallabeth (do we know if they have?) it would be great to see Sauron’s guile in action and all that comes with it. But I highly doubt Amazon are capable of doing a good job, whatever rights they may have. I can’t see how any fan of JRRT can accept this show - a very sub standard shadow of his great work.

Tolkien has died. No one writes like him. No one has his imagination or his talent. Every single person who touches his work makes it less than. This has always been true and it will always be true. Something else that's true is that his estate has sold the rights to lots of his works and multi-billion dollar corporations have plans to make money off of his work. Most of them don't care how. Based on your comment I would recommend logging off the internet and looking away from all this. It doesn't sound like you'll enjoy any of it (including Jackson's films) And I don't blame you. (However - for some of us, there's lots to love and appreciate about watching other people dive into Tolkien's world and tell more stories. I'm really excited to see how ROP connects the big moments Tolkien sketched out. I loved a lot of the first season and can't wait for more!)

I really appreciate you saying this, I'm very excited for this season and I know that there are people who aren't, but considering how overwhelming and stressful my personal life is, I'm happy to find some joy in this series. I read the books and love them, and can separate them from the show and the movies and I love all three for what they are. I've already had people come at me in the comment section for Fellowship of the Fans just because I'm excited. It's sad that now of days, we can't just agree to disagree anymore without getting ugly. For a while, I was staying away from this forum because I was finding myself getting more upset with some of the way people handled the different opinions. It's definitely good to have a different opinions, but to be kind about it.

I just wish the Estate would just stop allowing anything to be created, unless it’s a true JRRT narrative, which clearly it can’t now ever. Enough money must have been made by now! These RoP “writers” are hacks and have no place in middle earth. Mr Jackson did a fabulous job and left little to be negative about. Amazon have an Orodruin sized heap by comparison. I’ll ignore RoP but stay switched onto the Net, just to see how badly the majority of fans receive it. Enjoy it if you must but mediocrity is the best it will ever be, I fear.

I think we disagree more than you think about the Jackson movies (especially his second set of three) but I'm ok with that. I'm glad you loved them!

Sorry if I have upset you or anyone. But I don’t like the way JRRTs work is being used and that is an opinion. If the show cheers you up and makes things better, I’m happy for you. I leave in peace and friendship. 🙂

You don't have to apologize for your opinion, and I can understand where you come from. Where I love the films and the shows, they aren't the books and there are a few parts where I find myself rolling my eyes, but you are totally fine. Again, we are allowed to have our own opinion, it's just how it's shared. But I will say, most of everyone here on the Net is so much kinder than the comments on Instagram. Some of those are just cruel.

…as you mentioned it. I didn’t like it for the same reasons I dislike RoP: They have had to pad out/embellish too much and make up stuff that just doesn’t work or fit into JRRTs narrative. It’s obviously created by lesser writers than he. Jackson is a great adaptor when there is a lot to work with, but not when it’s sparse (The Hobbit). The same applies to RoP, where they have virtually nothing to work with.

I love both the Hobbit and RoP, but I will admit, even as a fan, I can see where they were struggling in what to put on screen. (The Battle of the Five Armies is my least favorite Middle-earth adaption mainly because I feel like it was just filling in alot of blanks but wasn't smooth at it so it was just not the best adaption) I still think PJ's Lord of the Rings trilogy was the best and like you said, it's cuz he did have alot to work with, almost too much because alot of the scenes I liked in the books were cut because of how full the movies already were!

I just wish the Estate would just stop allowing anything to be created Heh! I and others complain that the Tolkien Estate has fractured the legendarium and story to their own detriment by not releasing *enough* rights. The lack of rights to the Silmarillion and more is the reason Rings of Power is the fan fiction that it is. As I've previously written:
[Amazon] perhaps should not have attempted this project without full rights to all works necessary to tell this story. Tolkien himself seemed happy enough to prevent such a thing, precluding the chance for these criticisms to arise. Tolkien notwithstanding, the Tolkien Estate dooms all such projects when they insist on fracturing any production's full potential by refusing to license the full history of Middle-earth (I.e., The Silmarillion, etc.) such that nothing has a chance to be as excellent and complete as Tolkien's work.

if the people who own the rights to the books want to make more movies or shows, they should do the Children of Hurin (Not the whole Silmarillion because I don't think that could be done unless divided by individual chapters) but I would love to see the Children of Hurin as it was one of my favorite books, but that is one I would rather be very close to the source, much like the Fellowship of the Ring. Like with the new news that Andy Serkis is directing more LOTR films, I'm excited because I think Andy is a very capable actor and director, but I would much rather see something unfamiliar, maybe even a Tolkien source that isn't Middle-Earth. Farmer Giles of Hamm and the Father Christmas Letters are two of my favorite non-Middle-earth stories by Tolkien that would be fun to see and not straining the Middle-earth legendarium.

But I dread the thought of Amazon getting Silmarillion rights, after Cringe of Power. I just can’t see them doing it well and I don’t think giving them more to work with would mean they’d do a better job. I won’t be surprised if they do get the rights in the end though. Hope I’m wrong.
