They will bring it under the R rating. R rating in the U.S. means substantially less Box Office. PJ and WB are not going to do that. It's just the way it is.
Last year Ted I believe was the only R rated film to land in the top ten of Box Office grosses.
There are studies that show there is very little difference in violence between the R and the PG13 rating. The issue though is money. That's what it comes down to. WB and PJ will make sure it comes in at the PG13 rating (which I believe actually was developed in response to the Indiana Jones first movie if I recall).
