I think it is partly natural for certain things like preferences. But in terms of films is it what people want or is it they are just not getting anything different and so have no choice?

I think there is a trend at the moment in hollywood to try and make females totally kick ass and know it all. Maybe this is hollywoods version of feminism? To me it seems they are trying to be macho. I feel this is a problem with Tauriel (from the little we have seen). Personally i am tired of the perfect, kick ass female character and want something different. Maybe i am alone in feeling this, but if not then maybe hollywood is not providing the right kind of female roles/characters to have a greater impact on the BO? I think in general male characters are better written with quite a lot of female characters being there to look hot or be kick ass and look hot. If female characters were written to a higher level then maybe it would be different, but then maybe more of the writers are male and so feel less confident in writing great female characters or just write what they want to see, someone sexy.

But if mens preferences are for male led movies even if there are roles for women which are superbly written and women don't mind so much either way as they can relate to both, then yes i think there will always be more male related movies as one gender has a preference for that. It just seems weird to me as i am not one of those guys.
