I think RA's appearance may tell against him for some, but I see a purpose in it

I think RA's appearance may tell against him for some, but I see a purpose in it [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
In spite of his acting (which is quite good imho) and the gravitas he's brought to the role, Armitage may always be perceived (by some) as too young to have played Tolkien's Thorin. However, that does not mean he isn't wonderful as Jackson's Thorin. Wink

It seems an unfortunate fact that his perceived relative youth and non-warty appearance has left the entire performance in many cases rather at the mercy of his fair appearance. In fact I think his flashes of humor and numerous subtleties are quite exceptional - he is certainly not an over-the-top, drop-anvils-on-your had type of performer in any sense (thank goodness). Maybe I am just a happy and deluded fan, but I prefer to think that SPJ had a particular idea in mind when casting the House of Durin - as descendants of the Dwarf father closest to the Elves, and potentially then closest to the Song's plan for the Children, that maybe this Line stands out a bit in variation. (I've said this before, so pardon my needle being stuck in the groove, but I think it fits here, as I don't care to see RA's appearance held against what I think is a complex performance teased out of a thin text.)

(BTW the notion of Osgilliations is quite hysterically funny....)

Hell hath no fury like a Dragon who is missing a cup.
