I love both of them and I want more of him too. What I loved about the two (besides like being beside one another throughout most of the movie) was how they finished each other's sentences. Like when they tell Bilbo about the ponies. They switch between explaining haha. Also at the end haha. Anyway I was surprised by Kili's role in the movie too. The posters around shows quite a bit different version of him all broody and stuff while in the movie he's damn adorable. I think you're right about he not caring what he looks like, hench why he has no braids either. Fili got a lot of them, Kili none. He doesn't care. He wants to travel and fight and explore. I particularly loved how protective he got of Bilbo. I didn't expect that, but it's such a lovely touch. I am hoping they are going somewhere with this because they hired an amazing actor. I was watching Being Human long before The Hobbit and they must have hired him for more than his looks when he's so talented. It's going to kill me Anyway so far the two roles are so different (at least the two second seasons). Aidan is extremely good with emotions. You should check out my favorite episode "Lia" (3x01). There's a train scene where he's brought back to a crime scene faced with those he killed... it's amazing. I was really pleased with how they played Kili's role. I figured I'd like him and pretty much all the dwarves but I really thought it was a great decision to make him so...adorable. I never actually was concerned he'd be "broody" because the vlogs didn't make it seem like he'd be, nor did that test dialogue they wrote for the audition which was posted on TORN back when, but I did worry, given the basic character description, they might go for more of a cliche "cocky, show off, full of himself" sort of vibe, so when Kili turned out to be eager to please, friendly, a bit naive and open it was a really nice surprise. And yes I think one of my favorite developments was how fond and protective he was of Bilbo. He was also brave without being a show off, it just came off as so natural and automatic, like it just popped into his head and seems to be curious and have a sense of adventure. And it's true Kili himself doesn't look like he can be bothered to worry about his hair or his looks, which might imply his mind is on other things. I love the train scene in "Lia". I also recently rewatched the end of Season 1 and you know, I just don't understand why Season 2 and 3 went like they did. I remember when Aidan Turner left the show(it was the end of his contract) and they made really what was a very nice public announcement that he wasn't coming back because of The Hobbit but there were little things in there which made me wonder - like how they said they always knew he'd be moving on to bigger things, they wouldn't have him long, etc. Given how the last two season of Richard Armitage on Spooks went, part of me really is starting to wonder if the producers/writers don't sort of take it out on the characters that the actors are probably going to leave, because heck if anything Armitage's character Lucas North was assassinated more than Mitchell was. I say this because somehow Mitchell was written as more capable and mature in Season 1 than in the next two. It's not that it was impossible for Season 1 Mitchell to end where Season 3's was, but I just feel like Season 1 Mitchell would have gone about it all in a smarter if still ultimately unsuccessful fashion, it was like they just wanted to destroy the character in the hopes no one would miss him when he was gone. I mean don't get me wrong, the show is a great show, I just didn't particularly like the writing for the character.
Then get hold of a DVD of the BBC drama series "Desparate Romantics" where he plays the Pre-Raphaelite artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti...let's just say Aidan gets plenty of exposure in that role! I've seen that! It's was kind of a cool idea -it definitely is the sort of thing that I think you either really like or can't stand, but I found it pretty entertaining. It honestly made me laugh quite a bit and Aidan did a great job with Rossetti, who let's face it, is rather an @$$. He was quite charming, so it was easy to understand why his "friends" for one reason or another somehow kept getting mixed up with him and his schemes and ideas, because he mostly wasn't malicious, he was just self-centered and irresponsible, he wasn't a schemer in the sense of thinking of ways to hurt people, he just did things because he was so self-involved he didn't think about what his actions would do to anyone else.
