I had never thought of it before, but examining this screen cap, I notice his fur collared velvet coat, rings, and that lace hankie you mentioned, all of which have seen better days. He seems like Miss Havisham from Great Expectations - someone who hangs on to past expectations and who has become twisted and spiteful because those dreams never came to pass. It makes me wonder what happened to turn him from someone who, apparently, considered himself quite a dashing man with a promising future as the king's advisor, to a resentful, manipulative snake. I wonder if there's a spiderweb covered wedding cake in his room?
