The book was a little funny when it got to the mountain. The dwarves were like, "we're here! let's collect our 5000 tons of treasure from under the dragon now." They were so unprepared to deal with the dragon that it was comical. If their mission is to nick the arkenstone and worry about the other details later, at least they won't look quite as bone-headed.
