Was just about to post an NME article about Mckellen's frustration, however it missed out the part about his tent being decorated which was nice of the staff.

Not to sure that we can count on Tauriel's exclusion from the lego set to concrete proof since for the most part they've been making most characters' exclusive to certain sets. However the comic suggests otherwise and this character bio mentions the chief's drunken incompetence:
