I love the book but The only version of the sil I would want to see is one directly involving the Tolkien estate, (which will never happen, and they aren't in the know ehn it comes to filmaking anyway), tolkein spent almost 50 years writing and shaping that book on and off, with his son doing the final touches, given how much LOTR changed from the books, I personally think in a way it would a bit insulting of PJ to even try it. He was directly quouted as saying:

'Sure its not really Lord of the Rings but it could be a pretty cool movie anyway'

(I'm a massive purist when it comes to the sil...)

The sil is so differnt from Tolkien's other works (incest betrayal, murder, outright religous imagery, a 600 year main storyline) that the only way PJ would able to get funding would be to change it dramtically, remember he primarily makes the films for people who haven't read the books, no offense to people who haven't read the book but I dread to think how he would change it to simply it-There's no hobbits or gandalf so where's the marketing hook?

He would only get funding if he could tie it in with his existing films-given how most of the connecting material was missed out in LOTR films I can't see how he would do this, personally for me his films were at the worst when deviating too much from the source material, the silmarillion is really only a summary of what was intended so would require alot of re-writing and guesswork to turn into a film, This isn't designed as hate thread against pj, I simply think the book is too hard to adapt and remain faifthful for anyone, whilst still being populist for non-book readers.

But hey that's just my feelings, you never know I could change my mind come december...Smile
