I’m especially fond of The English Beat’s version of Tears of a Clown. As great as the original is, the EB put their own stamp on it in such a fun way. Here are some favorites related to your choices: Over The Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World medley - Israel Kamakawiwo’ole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9b3_1CcXtY Peter Gunn – The Blues Brothers I Fought the Law – The Clash (written by Sonny Curtis from the Crickets, made famous by Bobby Fuller Four) I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – Otis Redding We Can Work It Out – Stevie Wonder (Beatles) Got To Get You Into My Life – Earth Wind & Fire (Beatles) Some others: Take Me to The River – Talking Heads (Al Green) The Joker – Fatboy Slim (Steve Miller Band) (the song doesn't start until about :36, but the kittens are cute) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLwg48WQ6e4 Higher Ground – Red Hot Chili Peppers (Stevie Wonder) Just Like Starting Over – The Flaming Lips (John Lennon) http://www.youtube.com/...&feature=related Lean on Me - Club Nouveau (Bill Withers) My Funny Valentine – Elvis Costello (written by Rodgers and Hart recorded by many, including Frank Sinatra) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-8nRiyrIAk Stardust - Willie Nelson (Hoagy Carmichael) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1XyiIrrjcw And what about less famous original versions (or inspirations for later hits): Blinded by the Light by Bruce Springsteen later made famous by Manfred Mann http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iaca30QbOo&feature=related Bruce’s version has twice as many verses, much wordier, but is two minutes shorter LOL. It has a stream-of-consciousness, jazzy feel that is more upbeat. And, maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t realize Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise was based on Stevie Wonder’s Pastime Paradise. Both are great IMO. Pastime Paradise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wHnkQuY1cY Gangsta’s Paradise http://www.youtube.com/...&feature=related
