I remember a lot of promo shots that didn't appear in LOTR at all (most notably the goblins leaving moria for lothlorien) and also there were pictures for the FOTR promo which didn't appear in FOTR but TTT or ROTK. For example there is this picture of Saruman atop of Orthanc looking down (with a green light). This scene didn't appear in FOTR although it was part of it's PR (e.g. on the soundtrack cover), this scene didn't appear in TTT and although it didn't appear in the theatrical version of ROTK. I always wondered from which scene it was. Finally it appears in the EE of ROTK.
I'm afraid of this stamp of Throin near mirkwood being exactly the same case. I'm still hoping but... :/
