When discussions like this come up, I like to remember that perhaps the perhaps most "milked" artisitc franchise in modern history was probably The Beatles in 1964. I will not go into the details, but if you think Star Wars invented the modern franchise business, remember the Beatles coming to the US. Truly, it still puts SW to shame. (Of course, The Boys had no control over this. They had no control over anything at that early stage.) The other day in OT a couple of us were talking about wacky tie-in merch (the "24601" T-shirts already on sale for Les Miz film?!?) .My all-time favorite tie-in product HAS to be Beatlenut ice cream. That's right: say it again: The Beatles. Ice cream. What flavor was it, I wonder? I sometimes wonder if everything The Beatles later became was in rebellion against this...
