No official TH fan club/magazine? Can't Post

These were a fairly big part of the experience with LotR, obviously with subscribers getting their names in the end credits of the EE's being a stand-out perk...but unless I've missed something, there's been no word about this for TH? If we don't get one from Warner Bros, many films or even TV properties now have "official magazines", and if they're ongoing series, these tend to be published monthly - usually by Titan Publishing...so, is a TH magazine possible? Here's the press release announcing the launch and features of the LotR club/magazine:

October 2001

The Lord of the Rings Fan Club Launches

The Lord of the Rings Fan Club has opened its doors, creating a worldwide community for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's timeless epic and director Peter Jackson's cinematic retelling of this classic tale.

For a limited time, fans who join The Lord of the Rings Fan Club will be designated Charter Members and receive unprecedented recognition - inspired by Tolkien fans' tremendous response to the upcoming films, Peter Jackson has decided to honor charter members by listing their names in the credits of the DVD versions of the films!

"This is an announcement unprecedented in cinematic history and of immense importance to The Lord of the Rings fans," says Dan Madsen, vice president of Decipher's Fan Club Studio. "Peter is honoring the role of the fans in this creative journey. The fact that these films are being made with such precision and care is exciting in and of itself. But, by agreeing to place fans' names in the credits of the film, Peter is demonstrating that he truly understands what it means to be a fan of this brilliant property. This is the first time a director has acknowledged the contribution of fans to the creation of a film in this way."

Other member benefits include the bimonthly Lord of the Rings Fan Club Official Movie Magazine, the only official publication for the motion pictures; a fan-mail forwarding service to link fans directly to the stars of the films; and a 10 percent discount at the Fan Club online store. Charter members will also receive a limited-edition, wide-screen-format collector's lithograph featuring a scene from The Fellowship of the Ring, in addition to being listed in the DVD movie credits.

Through the magazine and the fan club Web site at lotrfanclub.com, members will have a chance to learn more about the films and the people behind them, not to mention a chance to communicate with other fans and post reactions and opinions.

Actor Elijah Wood, who portrays Frodo Baggins, the legendary Ring-bearer, in the films, was so enthusiastic about the idea of a fan club that he signed up as the first member of the club. "Since I started working on these films, I1ve been amazed by how many people have been impacted by this story and how much they care about it at a deep, emotional level," says Wood. "The fan club creates one big, worldwide society of Lord of the Rings fans and I aim to be part of that. "Besides, I want to be sure Peter puts my name in the credits of the DVD,2 Wood quipped.

In celebration of the launch of The Lord of the Rings Fan Club, fans everywhere are invited to enter a sweepstakes to win a trip for two to London, England, to attend the star-studded world premiere of The Fellowship of the Ring in December. Those who join the fan club will be automatically entered in the sweepstakes. Online and mail-in entries will also be accepted. Contest details are provided at lotrfanclub.com.

International memberships will also be available, and international clubs are expected to be introduced next year throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other locations throughout the world. Details about these clubs will be released on lotrfanclub.com in the coming months. Whether from Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, or Antarctica, The Lord of the Rings Fan Club members will receive similar benefits and share the same news, updates, and intimate connection with the stars as their friends from around the globe.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!
