"I noticed that even in the trailer, there are many direct quotes from the book. It surprises me that more people (especially purists) aren't very enthused about, or have failed to notice this."

The fact that more people have not pointed out quotes from the book in The Hobbit trailers does not surprise me. Book quotes are to be expected. It is that simple. Hard core purists would not care about the movies so why would they point out these quotes.


"...the dialogue in the original movie trilogy didn’t directly quote the book. Now, I know that there were lines uttered here and there, but it really seemed like most of it was tossed aside to better suit the narrative of a film."

If my memory is still with me, I recall many book quotes in the Lord of the Rings movies. Some were shuffeled from one character to another but were there none the less.
