I found you're review to be glowing, though I don't know that I agree on some points.

And I did read it all, so I will await my soda. lol I am just not sure it comes from the right place. I don't think that Peter et al are doing this for the money, but I do have fears that the success of the LOTR film trilogy may have bred egos, and with the egos a sense of "we know what we are doing. . . no matter what!" I also fear that it doesn't help to have an insular circle of hardcore fans essentially saying the same thing. A famous Soap Opera diva/character once commented, "The people of my company understand and accept WHATEVER I do." It seems to me that some fans hold such an attitude towards Peter Et Al. I am not sure it is always merited. Don't misunderstand, on the whole, I loved the LOTR films. Yet they were far from flawless, and there were certainly things I did not like. I disliked that some things were taken away, but I also disliked some of the things that were altered or added. That was when Peter was a relatively obscure director whose most famous films were only moderately successful. Now he is a household name. And from the first I have wondered if the fame would go to his (and his co-writer's) head. Will they forget that the vehicle of their fame was these great works which they adapted. ADAPTED, not created. My worry isn't that they became greedy, but that they decided they could tell a better tale than Tolkien (and were entitled to try). . . and that they may have gotten carried away. As to where film one will end. I honestly cannot see it ending sooner than the rescue by The Eagles. To end it sooner than that would surely seem to abrubt. My guess is still somewhere between Beorn's House and the barrells.
"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."
