You can't really archieve a wide variety of shades with burning, but when you use carving you can catch the shadows for superb depth effect and adding burning techniques to that adds to the detail and depth.

I just happened to find a pic of one wood carving 'painting' that has a suprising resemblance to a part in Hobbit. Wink
