I mean, I loved The Avengers for what it was (nerdgasm), but, I prefer something that aims a bit higher in terms of themes. And I think you can definitely feel Christopher Nolan's producer hands in this, it feels very "Superman Begins" as people have called it. Snyder's a great visual director, but certainly not an idea man, so, I'm hoping it's a good script. Watchmen was painful solely because that film needed to depart more from the comic (just because of pacing differences between graphic novels and film), so, I'm hoping he's learned a bit since then. David Goyer is also a hit-or-miss writer (his only good works being the Batman films), so fingers crossed that he's onto something good. And I was thinking a bit more about the specific choice of song in terms of what it means as a theme. They released two trailers with quotes from both of Superman's fathers Jor-el and Johnathan Kent, both of whom die. So, picking this song that indicated the loss of Gandalf, the old and wise wizard, is beyond appropriate. There was much more thought put into this song choice than simply 'it sounds sad'. I remember some people were worried that a Superman reboot would be too dark and gritty, but, I like this melancholy tone. After all, what better way to place Superman as a beacon of hope than by making the world around him dark?
