Arrived two hours early and about 200 people were before me, but I was still in the upper parking lot. Stood in the sunshine with kindred spirits and happily talked Tolkien until we were given applications to fill out and the line started moving. We were politely invited in, height measured, photographed, thanked for coming and finished by 1.30. It was a very pleasant experience, and I'm so glad I went (would have always wondered and kicked myself if I hadn't) even if that's all I ever get to do (but of course I'm hoping for a "woman, character face, reasonably long hair' call). 
Sorry it wasn't the same for everyone. Good luck with the online application, Scot Down Under. I didn't know you could do that. Fingers crossed for us both!
