The saucy lines I mentioned for Elrond were from the book

But I do know that the movies changed the context of "all Free Folk" with the camera cutting to Gimli. The book was a little ambiguous with what he meant by Free Folk. The movies didn't change much about Elrond commenting on how hard it was to separate Sam from Frodo. I always find myself laughing at these two lines. I'm not sure whether book Elrond would have said "our list of allies grows thin" but either way, I love the wit of the statement. I get the impression that movie Elrond is lofty in public but had quite a different private side. Yes, it was very emotional for him to go as far as to withhold information in order to prevent his daughter's death. I can see how some book firsters were unhappy with the change but I found that a more realistic reaction. I don't have any kids but I'm sure most parents would do the same. Who wants their kid to die? I don't have much to say about the casting except Weaving didn't look like some who was "neither old nor young." Although to be fair, it's hard for me to visualize someone like this. I'm surprised that I don't remember anyone from the commentaries making light of Weaving being nine years older than Blanchett but playing her son-in-law. I'm sure those two joke about this once in a while. On a different note, I love Weaving's delivery of "nine companions......" Spoken like a Zen master.
