the same debate happens with other religions, though most of the attention today is on Islam. There are a lot of people, both within and without the religion who consider feminism and Islam incompatible. I used to work in a library in high school and I was a little surprised at the number of books there written by women who consider themselves Muslim feminists. I think people who make sweeping generalizations about Islam being misogynistic tend to not know or forget that mistreatment of women used to be common in the Western world. Every society has to go through its own revolution for gender equality. What I'd really like to know is why rampant discrimination against women happened in many cultures in both the Eastern and Western worlds. But now, I'm getting way off topic.
