IMHO, of course. The Road to Minas Tirith : I like the general design of this one. MT makes me wonder if Tolkien or the Bros H had Borobudur in mind when conceiving MT, it is eerily similar to it. I think the clouds minick the shape of MT a little too neatly. The Pillars of the Kings: Is this work actually so grainy or is it the pic of it? The arms say "Howdy" to me more than anything else. The angles and upside -down triangles work well. Saruman at Orthanc: Very static symmetry and all spikey. I suppose it is meant to illustrate Saruman's mind of metal, though I wonder what it says about the men who actually built Orthanc. The Golden Hall of Rohan: The work is golden but the hall isn't. Was the Hall made of stone. I must say I like this one, all the angled, tilting buildings and mountains are quite dynamic. Helm's Deep: another majestic setting but is that immense arched hole meant to be the culvert where the orcs breach the wall? Rivendell: wouldn't have imagined that in a million years. Did they read the same book? Or was this a leftover illustration from Hansel and Gretel? Suitable children's book illustration but not LOTR. Or was it made for the Hobbit? In any case I don't see Frank Loyd Wright anywhere. Hall of Fire has some interesting arches and I like the huge fireplace but I really dislike the hobbit poses and their childlike appearance. The color is a little somber for the Rivendell I imagine. This one clearly shows the influence of the commissioning couple's taste. Lothlorien: I think Tim said it all. Obvious which brother had the veto power. I like the fellowship in this work, mostly because we only see them from the back and in shadow, but that Dartagnan hat has to go. Galadriel: I don't know why so many like this one. Gladdy has a deer in headlights expression, her right hand looks deformed and arthritic and the table with the mirror only reaches her knees.
