Greetings, and welcome to Fiesta Friday!

Hello everyone!

It's yet another beautiful Friday here in Colorado, which is really living up to it's Colorful Colorado nickname with all the fall colors in full display in this part of the state. It was a pretty uneventful week for me. I'm finishing up a project for a client today which will leave the weekend to get everything back in place after new carpet. Actually, we'll be moving some things ''out' of place, then back because I found a nice area rug for the living room to go under the sofa, chair and coffee table. We eat in front of the TV so we really need something to prevent mostly me Blush from spilling crumbs and things on the nice new carpet. The area rug is a relatively easy-to-clean one that's mega-soft, so we'll get a nice treat for our feet too!

How about you? What have you been up to this week? Any plans for the weekend? Let us know! The bar and buffet are well-stocked, as usual, and ready for Fiesta feeding and fun!

*puts quarters on juke box* play us something to go with nice, cooler weather, and have a fantastic weekend! CoolHeartSmile

LOL!

The ever-problematic "how can I keep the rug pristine where I'm eating" - and it sounds like you've got the perfect solution! (It's amazing how much of a mess a single crumb can make.)

We had a pot-luck lunch today, so I am stuffed with sampling all sorts of casseroles and salads and...cheesecakes. Pumpkin spice cheesecake is SO rich!

I've got to head back to work, so I'll just grab a mug of coffee with a drab of Bailey's, please, Altaira. We're going to visit my mom-in-law tomorrow, it will be a colorful drive through the Berkshire hills! Cool

Hope that rug of yours really ties the room together. Angelic

Another overcast day here. We had some brief showers the other day, accompanied by a two or three hours of thunder and lightning. Quite refreshing for this time of the year, when it's not expected!

I *think* I'm hiking with my friend tomorrow, this time for real. Her roommate had a questionable cough last weekend that led us to reschedule, so barring any last minute cancellation we'll be going. It's been a long week for me, so I'll take every minute outdoors I can get.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sounds lovely

...the visit and the drive. I googled it and the fall colors look amazing.

Oooh, the potluck sounds amazing too. What was your contribution? My brother's mother-in-law's pumpkin cheesecake recipe is the best. it's the only reason I own a springform pan. LaughLaugh

*mixes a bit of Bailey's with coffee* As usual, it sounded so good I made one for me too!

Enjoy the rest of your day and have a fabulous weekend!

Well...

...I didn't make anything, as I was scheduled for Jury Duty today, and didn't find out until last night that my duty was cancelled. But that's okay, there's always too much food! Laugh We had a Professional Development day today (giving the kids a 4-day weekend), with a long but good presentation on school safety.

*sips* Thank you! I think I'll pick up some apples on the way home, and make Mom-in-law some spiced applesauce. You have a fun weekend, too!

It's been a beautiful day here -

21C, 6 or 7 degrees above what it should be. That's all going to change soon, though - maybe we'll start to get some proper autumn colour, which hasn't got into its stride yet, when the nights grow colder. I'm looking forward to the reds, gold and copper (and occasionally burgundy) of autumn. Our native hedgerow field maples go a glowing buttery yellow, beeches turn copper, the sumach in my front garden turns red and some sorbus (rowans) near the local supermarket turn the more unusual burgundy shade.
I do like a fuzzy rug that you can dig your toes into; enjoy it! My living room is a bit small and well-filled to make a rug enjoyable, but my daughter has a much larger room with a woodblock floor and a lovely rug that has a sort of 'distressed' abstract pattern, which I do rather covet.
Have a good weekend, all - cheers!

That, along with some evergreens smattered in make for impressive autumn viewing. We have some of that here too, but pretty much everything that isn't yellow aren't native plants and trees with the exception of a bush or two. Still, I'll take it!

Enjoy the weekend and the nice weather while it lasts! Smile

Those will be lovely when they start to turn!

It's been 19C-23C in the days around here as well, a bit on the warm side, but the nights are a pleasant 10C-14C. We're starting to get some nice colours, especially reds and oranges.

Distressed abstract pattern: is that the kind where it looks like it's old and worn?

ooh, I'd like to get in on that White Russian action

I have to have one every time I watch "The Big Lebowski."

I'm back from my vacation on the dry side of the Cascades where the fall colors were amazing! There was one tree in particular I kept photographing . . . in the center it was still green, but farther out on the branches yellow and then flame red. As someone said, it looked like a flame. The vine maples in the passes were aflame, the aspens were just turning. Alas I was not able to hike up to larch country to see them in their golden glory.

We were supposed to close on the house today, but because there's a backlog in the appraisal review process, it's pushed out to Tuesday. Cannot wait to be done! I went over all the accounts today to make sure I've dotted every i, and sent my siblings a summary. Just two outstanding bills and a couple of checks from selling stuff still to come in, but everything looks tidy. I think I have discharged my duty!

Maybe make that a Black Russian with a shot of Kahlua too?

NO plans for the weekend. None. Nada. If weather permits I may take a jaunt to Mount Rainier to say goodbye before the snow closes the higher roads.

Distressed abstract - how to describe?

Imagine someone has taken wire wool to a piece of metal with several layers of paint on it - rust, gold, navy, teal - and scrubbed it one way, then the other, to reveal criss-cross streaks of various colours. That's as close as I can get! It's very attractive and practical, which it needs to be with two young boys and a dog galumphing about on it.

Is there a way

you could post a pic of that tree? It sounds amazing!

Glad you had a relaxing vacation - next time, you'll be able to do the hiking! My sympathies on the closing, a co-worker had the same thing happen last month, the appraisal review for the house he was selling got delayed and he had to re-schedule the closing for the house he was moving into, the rental van, etc. What a headache. Crossing fingers for Tuesday!

Good-bye to Mount Rainier? For just the season, I hope?

Sad news to report.

ElanorTX has been letting us know about her fiance being treated for cancer and other medical issues. The chemo had gone well, but then he developed what they called failure to thrive.

He was taken to the ICU Friday, and passed away Saturday morning.

He has his own grown children, and nine grandchildren. Elanor has family on the way to be with her, and her church family is also caring for her.

Many {hugs} and prayers to her, this is so heartbreaking! Frown

I was going to have the knee surgery first but I got a cortisone shot that really helped, and then the shoulder went very wonky very fast, so that's happening next. Shoulder surgery this fall, a year to recover, then I'll have the knee done. By 2024 I should be hiking again!

So busy... in a good way :)

I'm getting so many things ticked off my "Summer gotta do" list. It's been great... plus I made a trip to northern Michigan and my Charlevoix/Lake Michigan escape. I always feel so refreshed when I can make it to the big water, collect pebbles and rocks, and enjoy the changing colours of the trees. Most of northern MI is covered with trees and it's got some serious hills (small mountains, imho), so the view is spectacular! The weather was perfect on the only unrainy day all week.

I smiled when I saw you were putting a carpet down where you hang out the most and enjoy your dinner in front of the TV. *hand shoots up* It's my favourite time of the day when I can look forward to what I'll have for dinner and what will I watch while I'm enjoying it! It was especially fun when I was visiting Mom and we planned just like that every day.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoying an equally great week! *waves fondly* Thanks for taking such great care of us, Altaira!

Thank you!

I got a hike and then some - the "hike" was really a Cirith Ungol like climb up some very steep stairs that went all the way to the top of the hill. Three days later, my calves are *still* feeling like lead! Though that probably says more about my muscle strength now rather than the difficulty of the stairs. Angelic Still very fun with some great views at the top, but oof! I'll be doing a normal trail next time I hike.

And glad to hear you made it to your happy place up north! Do you have a system for categorizing rocks/pebbles/etc that you've collected? Or do they just all go into the same receptacle together?

No work on the hobbit hole facade

Sadly, it's going to be next Spring to start again. A whole year behind schedule with all the unforeseen delays. But I want to work on it when I'm not feeling like I'm neglecting any "grown up" activity ;)

The garage roof will also have to wait until next summer. The people who are planning on doing it aren't available now, and the prices/availability of the supplies I need are ridiculous! The estimate for materials has already gone from $2,300 in July to over $2,900. So when doors shut on moving forward, I don't try to break through. Things happen for a reason; but it'll be nice when everything starts to fall into place.

Shatner's overwhelmed... spoilers

If you have a chance to watch his full discussion with Bezos and how incredibly overwhelmed and shaken he is from what he experienced. It's so beautiful.

When everyone left the capsule, they were cheering, celebrating, shaking champagne and spraying all over as Shatner was off to one side... quiet.

At first when he got out of the capsule, he just stood there and didn't talk to anyone until Bezos walked up to him. He was at times in tears at seeing life (the Earth) and death (blackness of space). His struggle to describe what he felt is more than I thought he'd feel. I'm so grateful and moved by how much this means to him and how he now understands the beauty of Earth. He said, "I hope I never recover from this." So profound, and so passionate about life and the blue sliver of air around our planet.

I couldn't look away from him. He's amazing. I'm so proud of him... and so happy for him...

Shatner's reaction to the experience is the point of the exercise, I reckon.

While everyone else is whooping and hollering and popping champagne corks, he's off to the side quietly letting those few minutes in the dark above the blue transform him. As he spent many minutes genuinely trying to describe the effect it has had on him, we were getting more art than technology after a trip to space.
Yeah, I cried. Wink

YouTube full launch coverage. His emotional description of the experience follows this photo in the video. It's worth the watch.

Thank you for the link!

I was so happy Bezos stayed and gave Shatner a chance to work through his emotions and truly respected and was touched by what was happening. Such a beautiful moment. The greatest reaction to this experience ever, imho.

Here's a link

to Shatner's reaction after leaving the capsule. It's hard to hear at first...

Heartbreaking news

How horribly sad. Still, I can't help but remember Elanor sharing with us all the happy times they had together, and how they were together, supporting each other through this time. I'm sure those happy memories will stay with her forever, but so glad to hear she has lots of support right now.

Blessings to her and her fiance's family. Heart

Congratulations on the happy news, Dame Ioreth!

How happy and proud you must still be. Just think of all the happy times ahead for both of them and for the rest of your family. Well done to all of you! Smile
