Hi everyone! Gramma, you when to New Zealand last month?! Jealous! I do hope you'll share all the pictures! :D
Puppies with Tolkien names and Finalists, oh my!
I had every intention of making a visit to Fiesta much sooner than now, but some happy things have happened that took up all my attention!
First of all, my family adopted a 2 month-old lab puppy on March 28th. The shelter thought she may be mixed with something else because of the teeny bit of white on her toes and chest, but short of a DNA test, nobody actually knows what the mix may be...if there even is one. The internet says even pure-bred labs occasionally have random spots of abnormal color and so far, other than those bits of white, she looks and acts pure lab.
Here's some pics from the day she came home. The shelter called her "Midnight" but we changed her name to "Melian" or "Meli" for short. https://www.instagram.com/...n-by=efbuckleswriter She looks quite small in those pics, and she was...but she's gained about 4 lbs since then and her body and legs are already longer. Here's a more recent pic: https://twitter.com/...s/981941455911604224 During her first vet appointment on Thursday, the vet predicted she may end up being 75 lbs when she's all grown up. Good thing we've had big dogs before. :p Da beagle is slowly getting used to her and they're interacting more and more and occasionally getting close to playing. I am also finally getting used to her energy and personality and she's very smart and doing well with the training we've done with her already.
The other bit of news is related to that Snow White retelling anthology contest I said I entered. The contest results were announced on March 31st and while I didn't win a spot in the anthology, I was a Finalist! My name and story (Moonsilver by E. F. Buckles) is listed as a Finalist on the official website. http://www.rooglewoodpress.com/writing-contest The feedback I got was good as well. There were seven sections on it worth five points each where the judge scored me on thing like plot, grammar, voice and stuff like that, and I got 56 of 60 points. Of the few things they said needed improvement, all were things that I'm sure giving the story some breathing room will help fix, so looking forward to working on that in the coming months and eventually finding a way to get it published.
That's all the news I have. :) I hope everyone is doing well and has a good weekend!
What kind of king would choose to wear a crown that bleeds and scars to win my heart?
What kind of Love tells me Iím the reason He canít stay inside the grave?
You. Is it You? Standing here before my eyes, every part of my heart cries,
Alive! Alive! Look what mercyís overcome; Death has lost and Love has won
Alive! Alive! Hallelujah, Risen Lord, the only One I fall before
I am His because He is alive.
