Howard Shore confirms (again) he'll be working on 'The Hobbit'

Not really anything new, but over on Aint It Cool News someone went to see a LotR performance, and Mr. Shore stated that he had already been working on ideas for the films' score. The post also says that it will be the first time Mr. Shore has worked with Guillermo del Toro, although it doesn't specify if that came from the poster or Mr. Shore.

*throws face in hands* omg

Shore's not as good at being elusive like Sir Ian... *tears* It's done, folks. When is shows up here and at Harry's place... it's done... and that's flat!

*chin quivers* I'm so happy....

Thanks deej

for me, it was 'done' when it came out of Howard's own mouth a month or so. I had reports of his comments from very reliable (and multiple) people.

I also wanted to report that Howard and Doug attended, and spoke beforehand, the concert this last weekend at Lucerne, Switzerland. Sabsi Fronek has (as always) done a nice job of writing up synopsis/review of her experience complete with photos. You can find it HERE. You can also follow conversation re: the concert at Doug's blog.

These are probably only interesting to the moderate to diehard soundtrack fan. But I know there's a few of you out there so I wanted to put these out there.

If he's had ideas since TTT . . .

. . . then I bet the score is going to be great! I hope this is true! Smile

It is taking shape after all... albeit REALLY slowly. Patience is a virtue, they say...

Really thrilled to hear about this!

What a relief! Thank you Mr. Shore!! /

Cķrdan saw further and deeper than any other in Middle-earth, and he welcomed Mithrandir at the Grey Havens, knowing whence he came and whither he would return.
'Take this ring, master,' he said, 'for your labours will be heavy; but it will support you in the weariness you have taken upon yourself. For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill.'

Not without Shore

Middle Earth on the big screen could not be Middle Earth without Shore's compositions and music. Great news!

Howard Shore and "the Hobbit" composition....gets me with goosebumps every time I hear stuff like this from him....what I would not give to be a fly on the wall when he composes.....

It's no secret, I almost *worship* this man....

How can the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad happened, when *he* (and U2) are with us?

This is such fantastic news! Truly, no one other than Howard Shore should do the musical score for "The Hobbit." His compositions for the LOTR trilogy are on a par with the great classical masters & will outlive all of us. Heart

"And then Gandalf arose and bid all men rise, and they rose, and he said: 'Here is a last hail ere the feast endeth. Last but not least. For I name now those who shall not be forgotten and without whose valour nought else that was done would have availed; and I name before you all Frodo of the Shire and Samwise his servant. And the bards and the minstrels should give them new names: Bronwe athan Harthad and Harthad Uluithiad , Endurance beyond Hope and Hope Unquenchable.." ~Gandalf, The End of the Third Age , from The History of Middle Earth series

will the score of the Hobbit be similar to the LOTR?
I sure hope so

haha- I'm not an expert, but...

I don't think you'll have to worry about that; film composers have this vain tendency to repeat their own themes, even in other movies! If Shore's been pressing for The Hobbit, then you will, I think, hear a few familiar themes. Probably not all over the place, but I don't think any composer can resist repeating themselves, especially in movies that are somehow related, or part of a series.

Excellent News

Great to see that with the return of McKellen as Gandalf and now Howard Shore as composer, the two anchors of the Hobbit are in place. I cant imagine anyone else creating the sounds of Middle Earth. Now all we need is a director and a script ....
