Which is your favorite Middle-earth mascot?

If each location in Middle-earth could be considered a school with a sports team and had its own mascot, which would be your favorite?

As for *what* sport that team plays, you decide. Wink Those who get it when I say that I nearly put 'Iron Hill Razorbacks' will know that here in the SEC it is American football season and everyone has a one-track mind when it comes to sports. Well, mostly everybody.

Your favorite mascot needn't be which would be the strongest, just which one you like the most. Any suggestions you think are better than mine would be greatly acceptable. I couldn't think of absolutely anything for the Shire other than 'Hobbit Ninjas'. Wink

I have a feeling that the Talking Purses will be a hit (Dictum sacculus, according to our Tolkienia Times). Most of the mascots I listed are animals, since most mascots in real life *are* animals, but not all - see the Umbar Pirates. Also, I had a laugh making mellyrn the mascot of Lothlorien, as the official mascot of Stanford University is actually a tree. So there is a precedent!!

Also, if you don't know what the Isengard Fighting Uruk-hai are, please take a gander at this link: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/180777372514679214/ (I hope the link works!)

Elf and Dwarf in company walk in our daily fields; and folk speak with the Lady of the Wood and yet live; and the Sword comes back to war that was broken in the long ages ere the fathers of our fathers rode into the Mark! How shall a man judge what to do in such times?"

"As he ever has judged. Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves and another among Men. It is a man's part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house."

Horses!

I went with the Edoras Mearas, mainly because that name sounds so cool. Cool It was a tough choice, though. You have some really great (and believable!) choices.

Aside from the obvious choice (cough, cough...equestrian Wink), I think the Mearas would do well at baseball--and track! Anything with running (well, galloping) involved would be good.

Go, Mearas!!

I agree

Mearas would be great! As for equestrian sports endurance racing and dressage ( it did start as a military drill after all) would be fun to see.

Oh yes, he'll love that! ;)

I wonder how long it will be before he finds it? Wink

Out of the options I think I like either the Horses of Edoras or the Eagles.

If I were to choose the "other" button, how about an acorn for the Shire? Smile

What's this? A Ranger caught off his guard?

Gundabad Wargs vs. Rhosgobel Rabbits - Rhudaur Field (7:00 pm M-eT)

Our announcers for tonight's game are Gandalf the Grey and Radagast the Brown...

GANDALF: I think the Wargs will outperform the Rabbits tonight in the running game. What do you think, Raddy?

RADAGAST: I'd like to see them try! Last week the Rabbits gave the mighty Dol Guldur Spiders a run for their money over in Mirkwood Forest.

Final Score
WARGS - 20
RABBITS - 23

Rabbits win!!!

If I had to pick just one,

I would probably pick the Edoras Mearas, too. Smile What can I say? Horses...

*in a whisper* Okay, and I like the blond horsemen, too... Wink

Ooh, great idea!

Smile An acorn for the Shire - quite lovely! If I get enough suggestions for a symbol for the Shire, I might just have to start another poll asking people which is their favorite.

Sorry 'bout that.

Alabama vs. Arkansas this Saturday was kind of cringe-worthy for the Razorbacks... Unsure However, I am from a mixed Alabama/Auburn family, so... sorry. Cool

I have a favorite professor who graduated from Arkansas. There would be friendly discussions of the rivalries each morning before calculus got underway. Wink Living on a farm and experiencing hogs up close and personal, I can definitely attest that they are fearsome critters and that Dain's army picked an excellent animal to cause massive mayhem and carnage. Pigs are very fast, agile, and intelligent. They are also destructive. If this poll were about which mascot could do the most damage, the Razorbacks wouldn't be too far behind the oliphaunts, methinks.
