Dumbledore vs. Gandalf

So, if these two were to meet, what would they do? If they dueled (in magic powers) who would win?
Or, would these two end up having a conversation?
You decide! Wink

Well, the superior Wizard, obviously

The one that Rowling heavily based her headmaster on. Wink

Seriously though, Gandalf has been around since before the creation of the world, and as a Maiar he possesses power beyond Dumbledore's wildest dreams-he also has the Elven ring of fire. Though his powers were limited while in the form of Gandalf, Olorin still got to employ some pretty incredible displays of magic, e.g. calling down lightning.

Oh, and when he died he did not in fact die, as Dumbledore did, but came back even mightier than before.

Gandalf-1
Dumbledore-0

Of course the likelihood of them fighting is fairly small-they'd most likely be best friends if they knew one another!

So true on all counts!

Gandalf has power beyond Dumbledore, yet I bet they'd be best friends.

Dumbledore: So nice to meet you, Gandalf. Did you know, I got ideas from you?
Gandalf: Really?
Dumbledore: Oh yes. Otherwise, how could I have come up with those brilliant ideas. Did you know, Voldemort copied off of your adversary Sauron? Talk about a god-complex!

Dumbledore would offer Gandalf a butterbeer, and

Gandalf would return the favor with some of his best Longbottom Leaf, and they would spend a companionable afternoon sharing tales of their adventures and advice on caring for beards.

Rather as Father Christmas and Odin might, were they to meet.

Gandalf, of course.

Dumbledore died and stayed dead. Gandalf took dying in stride and came back! Plus, he is an angelic spirit created before the formation of the universe itself, he has the Elven sword Glamdrig as well as his staff (he can attack you physically as well as magically, which is something just about every wizard in the HP world never thinks of), and he has the Elven Ring of Fire. He is the Wizard. He can do as he chooses. Plus, he didn't just defeat some puny mortal wizards; he orchestrated several countries and races into bringing down a demonic overlord. That is an accomplishment.

Gandalf for the win.

Oh, and I think someone's done this in video form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KB5Gqr_dXk Laugh Sorry, Dumbledore, but just when you think you've defeated him he comes back as the White.

However, I'd like to see how a conversation between them would go over.

"I had forgotten that. It is hard to be sure of anything among so many marvels. The world is all grown strange. Elf and Dwarf in company walk in our daily fields; and folk speak with the Lady of the Wood and yet live; and the Sword comes back to war that was broken in the long ages ere the fathers of our fathers rode into the Mark! How shall a man judge what to do in such times?"

"As he ever has judged. Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves and another among Men. It is a man's part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house."

Death seemed to be a loose concept in HP as

the departed still hung around and could come and go with a spirit body.
