I've always thought that Azog is well realised

I like his body movements, and find he has a more intimidating presence than any of the frozen-faced, prosthetics-laden Orks from LOTR. I also like Azog's deep voice and the fact that he speaks in Orkish. (I did like the way Lurtz was done in FOTR, but thought Orks like Gothmog were just stone-faced looking, and were not intimidating at all.) I don't care if the book story is not followed exactly – I have easily been able to separate both PJ's Hobbit and his LOTR films from the books, and look on the books and films as two different entities.
I watched AUJ again last evening, and I found myself appreciating the subtleties in Manu Bennett's mo-cap performance, and how perfectly they reflect in the final form of Azog. While his role in the story is a divergence from canon, I found him an intimidating presence with more layers than you would initially believe:
