Your favorite Hobbit Costume or clothing item

1) Bilbo's dressing gown. That thing is fabulous. I laughed that PJ had one made for himself and said "But mine was bigger". LOL.

2) Thorin's fabulous fur lined coat. That thing is just great. It looks so warm and inviting. So does RA..but I digress.

3) Bofur's hat. That just makes his character and I love it. It reminds me of Randy Quaid in the Vacation movies. perfect! I want one!

What are yours?

Great question HS!

I see your three PLUS I raise you a pair of Thorin's boots. I love the blocky shaped toe and the repeating Dwarven motif, and the straps that cross around the calf. Great design.

Good one!

Yes I loved the designs on the boot. Those were great. They really are heavy boots great for trudging through those mountain passes and the snow. I want a pair. But i sort of think they might clash if I wear them with Bilbo's dressing gown.

So much to pick from!

Here are a few I could think of...

- Balin's boots
- Bilbo's robe
- Dwarves of Erebor; too much to praise
- Gandalf's new getup
- Radagast getup
- Thór's circlet
- Thráin's skull tattoo
- Elrond's orc-polo attire (his new armor)
- Great goblin's styling Ambercrombie loincloth

You hit the top three for me too, and in exactly that order!

And I would add Thranduil's megaloceros-antlers headdress. Not that I find it particularly attractive, nor would I want one, but I found it very creative and unique. I definitely would love a dressing gown like Bilbo's!

Thank you for that

Now I will forever associate Bofur with Randy Quaid Tongue

I want Thorin's vambraces. And Dwalin's knuckle dusters. Actually all of the dwarves' hand/arm wear is pretty great, even Ori's knitted mittens!

hard to decide

1) Bilbo's robe- I adored the detail of the patchwork
2) Erond's armour
3) Galadriel's dress and over-dress

And I couldn't not mention Thorin's fur coat, Bofur's hat, and Bilbo's red coat.

'There lie the woods of Lothlorien!' said Legolas. 'That is the fairest of all the dwellings of my people. There are no trees like the trees of that land. For in the autumn their leaves fall not, but turn to gold.'

Mine would include

Gandalf's scarf
Bilbo's dressing gown
Lindir's purple tunic
Radagast's costume minus bird crap
Balin's pointy shoes
Thorin's overcoat
Bofur's hat
Thrain's cloak
Thror's beard braiding

Also I *LOVE* the look of the Moria dwarf armour. I know some have compared them to clones but personally I think it looks very cool.

Too many to pick from but all of the above are great.

I also love the outfit Elrond is wearing during the White Council meeting, the dark blue one. Beautiful colour and design.

list

1. thorin's yak coat. i actually wear things like this in real life. i would look good in that coat. i love that coat.

2. bilbo's bag... it has a little leaf emblem on it. love it.

3. vambraces -- thorin's, but really, vambraces in general. this is also my personal style.

4. kili's shirt. hardly can be seen. lace-up type. nice.

cheers --

.

aka. fili orc-enshield
+++++++++++++++++++
the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield."

this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel telpemairo

but my favourite so far is Thranduil's silver over-robe that we got a glimpse of in the v-log:

I like

anything Thranduil wears, the silver gowns are gorgeous, the last one looked like a kimono coat with large sleeves and an Elven pattern. I like Elronds new kit too. I liked Galadriels silver over dress as well.

Good Question!

Everybody seems to love Bilbo's dressing gown - me included! Weta should start selling them.

I also like:
- Bofur's hat, of course! Also his fang/claw earring.
- Elrond's armor. I think I actually drooled a little when I first saw it, it was so gorgeous. Actually all of Elrond's clothes were fantastic, especially the blue outfit he wore to the White Council. Apparently his daughter isn't the only member of the family with great taste in clothing.
- Balin's coat. I love the deep red shade and it really makes him stand out from the other dwarves.
- Kili's coat and boots
- Thorin's belt buckle

What I love about all the costumes and jewelry is the incredible attention to detail. Nothing is overlooked, even if it doesn't show up in the finished film. You have to look very carefully to notice it in the movie, but in the Chronicles you can see the wonderful, kind of Persian pattern on Radagast's clothing that fades under all of the aging they subjected it to. It's really lovely.

Great points

The little details that don't make it to film. You are so very correct about that and I too appreciate it very much. Balin's stuff is a great example of that for sure. I too love the deep red color. I think it's terrific.

Bofur's hat

I'd be happy if I just got Bofur's hat. (I've heard you can actually buy fanmade replications of it somewhere. Has anyone else looked?) I just love his hat. So much. I'd braid my hair to match his and I'd wear the hat to school. And it wouldn't matter if people looked at me weird, because it's Bofur's hat.

That being said... I also really like practically all the clothes in the movie, so it's hard for me to pick out any favorites other than The Hat. Elrond's armor and Thorin's coat rank up there pretty high, though.

For me...

In addition to yours, I would say Gloin's costume has to be up there. I really like the consistency between he and Gimli's appearance s in the trilogies. Like father like son.

And also Elrond's second costume, that he wears while reading the map's runes.

They really make them. Wow.

Heart Now I am one happy camper again. *stares longingly at the screen* Now I just have to convince my family (who already believe I have far too much Hobbit on my mind, although I contest that that is an impossibility) that this would be the best birthday present ever.

Thanks so much for the link, Old Toby! *hugs*

Balin's prolouge outfit, Elrond & Rivendell Elf armor. //

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Do the ponies' fur coats count?

If so, I put in a vote for them. Wink

I also like Thror's beard ornaments, Thranduil's crown, Radagast's mismatched shoes, Fili's twin swords and knife-holding vambrance, Young Thorin's beard holder and his royal blue undercoat, and Balin's jeweler's loupe.

But my absolute favorite...
Thorin's wig. Angelic

(Come on--somebody had to mention it. Wink)

Dwalin's tattoos

I don't want to have them myself, but they look fierce on him.

I also love the knuckle-dusters, the big leather straps across his chest, and the Warg-pelt across his shoulders. In fact, I think Dwalin's entire look exudes barbaric splendor.

Why don't they sell replica clothing items?!? I would buy them!

Everything relating to Bilbo: I want his bag!!! His jackets and robe are lovely. I have a female version of his red jacket. Smile
Rivendell elves- I like that you can tell how their style in clothing evolved from Hobbit times to LOTR times. Beautiful dresses.
All the dwarves' boots, especially Thorin's boots.
The metal hair accessories- dwarves & elves. I'm surprised these aren't more available to buy.
Thranduil's crown- not my style, but fits the character well
I second the mentions of Thorin's coat and Kili's shirt. Very nice!
Mithril vest deserves another mention. Wows me every time.

I think I'm in the minority, but I didn't care for Galadriel's outfit. It's nearly identical to LOTR and the over-dress thing adds nothing. I do like her crown, though. I guess she's like gandalf-- the characters don't change much, nor need to change.
