I was just surfing around looking up more Tolkien/Hobbit information and stumbled across this online institution that specializes in Tolkien and fantasy literature. It seems to offer a M.A. program and also lets you audit classes. Check it out at mythgard.org Let me know what you think.... I am currently looking for a M.A. program, but I am not sure if this is right for me. I would love to take some of the courses, but I don't know how far a degree in Tolkien will get me.
