Amazon UK Exclusive Blu-ray Steelbook

For our friends in the UK, or anybody who wants to import (as I am), Amazon.co.uk has an exclusive steelbook edition of the Blu-ray of The Hobbit for pre-order. As with other UK editions, it doesn't release until April 8. Also, it looks like it may be only the 2D version, so those who want the 3D version need not apply. Smile

Suits me!

I'm happy to get just the 2D version (which I preferred anyway) TE at a cheaper price, then shell out for a combo EE collectors' edition later!

The German one looks great,

and, best of all, doesn't have the annoying blue 'blu-ray' band across the top. I might have to get it just for display purposes and keep my R1 discs in it.

I wonder if Pandora is at home today?

That cover image appears to have a green tint. Just sayin'.

Lenticular Bilbo and Gollum cover for UK...

Hadn't seen this before now... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/...up4XMfL._AA1500_.jpg

...hadn't seen this before. I liked the other cover we saw. Was that the US version or fan-made?

Do you not find...

that green rating logo to be equally, or more, unappealing as the Blu-ray band? Because that is part of the actual cover - not a sticker or anything. Whereas the blu-ray band on top of the uk edition is probably just part of a cardboard outer packaging that comes off the steelbook (as is often the case).

Nice thing is the Warner UK / German discs are pretty much all region-free

and will work in NTSC-land as well as PAL countries (whose HD sets can typically handle the various standards.) I know of many who ordered the special UK and German Harry Potter collector sets with that in mind. ;)

Usually, Warner makes the FSK rating logo a sticker on the first edition of a steelbook. So it's not an actual part of the artwork.

I was gonna say "It's a good day to have a region free player"

but it turns out that it's region free. Not only that but apparently 'frustration free' as well. What's that all about?
I thought we Americans we corny sometimes, but labeled ratings for PACKAGING???!?!?!?!?...

Davy Jones could've been Bilbo...I mean he was a Brit with a sense for adventure, singing & dancing. And think of the costs it would've save with forced perspective: he was ACTUALLY 5'3. He also hung out with a grumpy tall dude in a hat (Mike Nesmith.) While we're at it let's just have Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork as Merry & Pippin.

Likewise, the blue banner will be a cardboard slip

Even though the temp artwork that Warners use for their steelbooks makes it appear printed onto the case, it'll just be a removable cardboard slip.

The same thing happened with their steelbooks for Dark Knight Rises, Wrath of the Titans, Sherlock 2 - the first released artwork for all made it appear the blue banner was printed as part of the artwork. The last one they did with the banner printed on was Green Lantern in 2011.

I was definitely under the impression

that that is a sticker on the German version. If that's the case (that it's not), and the blue blu-ray band is indeed a cardboard insert on the British version, then yes, i definitely would prefer the British version.
