...keep in mind that I don't have a cell phone so I'm not very versed in these things. From my experience with my husband's, the do function very differently than computers.
If you are getting an email message of some sort, is there *anything* in that message that can tell you what account this is associated with? For example, I have multiple email accounts that all get channeled to one account. To determine which email account (of mine) any message came from, I have to look in the details for the email. I might think that my primary gmail account is getting messages from Company X but it's really my work account that is getting them.
Also, when we were traveling, I wanted to check my gmail from my husband's phone. In trying to do that, I *think* I was asked if I wanted the phone to sync with that account. I said yes. That worked fine while we were traveling but then my husband started getting alerts/reminders for all the events in my calendar and all the events in my son's calendar (which showed up in that first interface I showed you... it was his work schedule so I could plan dinners).
Now, I was not set up to receive alerts/reminders for these events. I didn't get them on my computer (and I know how to do that and do that for some events).
The solution for this problem was perhaps easier than yours will be. We simply stopped syncing my gmail account to his phone since I didn't need to check emails on it once we were home.
But that 'alert' action was prompted by his phone. If you haven't looked around other help issues for google calendars, I'd do that next:

One of them might address phone issues.
And if you can get into your phone to check what accounts it might be syncing with, that might be helpful.
And while talking about syncing, this may not have anything to do with this issue but I used Chrome both at work and at home for browsing. And I sign into my personal gmail account at work so google knew who I was at work. I once saw a link for syncing Chrome and, misunderstanding what it would do, I clicked it. It synced all my passwords and bookmarks from home onto my work computer. Yikes! I did not want that. I had to figure out how to unsync the two computers then I had to go in and sort out what was work passwords and bookmarks and what was my personal ones and make sure my personal ones were deleted.
I bring this up because google can be kind of 'tricky' like this. I don't mean to imply they are tricking us. Only that if we have a lot of google accounts (and I do... gmail, google groups, Chrome, Picasa, google docs, etc.) and we access some of those accounts on multiple computers or devices, then the potential to get things muddled up is high. And it can take a great effort to understand how that happened and unmuddle them (I think I spent 2 hours on the Chrome issue).
And... on the off chance you can and do use Chrome on your phone, perhaps the syncing came from that direction somehow.
If you have exhausted all ideas about google accounts, syncing with google accounts, etc. then maybe your phone provider can help you problem solve. They should at least be able to help you dig into your phone to find settings I'd have no clue about. My son worked for awhile in iPhone support and they're supposed to stick with you till they solve the problem.
Google has help forums which I find are only mildly useful. But google search can sometimes help. Have you done a google search for: >> stop google calendar reminders on iphone <<
Or, maybe there's a iPhone support forum somewhere. Other users can be a great help sometimes.

(edit to add: I've put out a general call for anyone on TORn staff with an iPhone that can help. I don't know if we have any, but you might want to 'watch' this thread so you are notified when replies are made. Of course, you have to have your preferences set to receive email notification. :-) alternately, you could just keep checking for a week or so.)
