Ian McKellen awarded an honourary doctorate!

Our Gandalf, Sir Ian McKellen, has been awarded with an honourary doctorate from the University of Ulster, of which James Nesbitt (his co-star Bofur the Dwarf) is the current chancellor.

Many congratulations, Sir Ian!

"These are Gundabad Wargs! They will outrun you!"

"THESE are Rhosgobel Rabbits! I'd like to see them try...."

Congrats, Sir Ian! /

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

That's Doctor Sir Ian... or is it Sir Ian, Phd?

either way he didn't expend a lifetime of effort to be called simply Sir Ian. Laugh

Saw that on our local news

It was really funny, Ian McKellan described how 6 months ago he'd been sitting on the top of a mountain on middle earth with James, James had told him how he was chancellor at Magee in Derry and Ian was a bit dubious! It was a lovely news item, Ian was warm, friendly and spoke about how pleased he was to be there esp. as he had fought discrimination himself and saw the progress being made in Derry in the present.
