'Twas Radagast

Along through the forest I walked at a pace,
When something did flutter, right up in my face.
Around and up it flew, and swirled away,
A great brown moth, out at mid-day?

Then out of the bushes, it caught me unawares,
A sleek wooden sleigh, and eight giant hares,
With a silly old driver, so lively and fast,
I knew in a moment it must be Radagast.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and chirped, and called them by name:

“Now! Bugs, now! Harvey, now! Peter and Flopsy,
“On! Roger, on! Cotton-tail, on! Thumper and Mopsy;

“To the edge of the wild! Do evade the dark hall!
“Now Dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

He was dressed all in brown, with a nest under his hat,
and he held a tall staff, and had a beard full of scat.

A worthy wizard is he, but his thoughts are a buzzin’
‘Twas Radagast the Brown, my good ol’ cousin.

(My intent was to post this at a more timely moment between The Hobbit’s release and Christmas, but real life got busy, as it tends to do at that time of year. Also, I began putting this together back when we expected the moth would in some way be connected to Radagast. I still like that concept, and decided not to change that part. So despite it being a little less relevant now, I hope you guys enjoyed my meager attempt at humor!)

There it is: dwarves are not heroes, but calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people like Thorin and Company, if you don't expect too much.

(With apologies to Mr. Lewis Carroll)

BUNNY-SLED

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All whimsy did the wizard show,
Much to some fans' outrage.

Beware the bunny-sled, my son!
The legs that hop, the ears that flop;
Beware the nesting birds, and shun
The hedgehog that goes flop!
(or alternatively:)
Beware the bird-poo stains,
There's one that fell there from his top.

He took the Morgul-sword in hand.
Long time the Nazgul foe he sought;
Then sledded he past the Trollshaw trees,
While the Dwarves escaped and fought.

And, while from wolfish pack he ran,
The bunny-sled, with feet of flame,
Came whipping past the camera man,

Small clarification/edit

Instead of:

Beware the bird-poo stains,
There's one that fell there from his top.

I'd like it to say:

Beware the bird-poo stains, there's one
That fell there from his top.

This was fun! If no one fills in the last bit in 24 hours, I'll try to wrap it up.
